Hey All,

My wife's I 130 was approved on April 30th. I had called the NVC and asked what was the update on the case number. I did not get much information but he asked me to wait for additional 8 weeks. That would be 11 weeks since I 130 was approved. Is it taking 11-12 weeks to get case numbers assigned by NVC?

If you are from a country where electronic processing (ie. pivot) is the method, then yes, it can definitely be 11-12 weeks after I130 was approved before even getting a case number depending on when the I130 is received by NVC. It does seem like things are speeding up and people may be getting their case number a little sooner, but I'd still account for 8 weeks from the time they receive it.

Thanks so much.  Are we able to start gathering these things this early? I mean, does it matter when we get these translations and reports? The NVC won’t say anything about the dates that are posted when we go these? Hope that makes sense

yup, you can start right away. Think the only thing that has expiry date is the police report. You have to obtain a new one if it's issued more than a year before your interview.

The petitioner also should start preparing the Affidavit of Support packet.

Good Luck,

Honestly, I do not know what is a PIVOT case. I am USA citizen and my wife is India citizen.

PIVOT simply means electronic filing of your documents at NVC stage. It is dependent on your consulate. For easier purposes, India is non-PIVOT meaning it will take around 8 weeks after NVC receives your file for assigning of Case # and ID. And then you have to physically mail your documents to NVC

Honestly on the police record part I would wait until you receive the case number.  I am speaking from experience.  My spouse rushed out and got hers done after being approved and now we are still waiting for the case number.

I don't think there's any harm in doing it after NOA2. I had mine done just before my I-130 approval knowing that it's good for a year.
