I have a question as I am going through the I-864 before my husband went underway.

Part 6 - Question 7 "My current individual income is: xxxxx - is this adjusted or gross?

Part 6 - Question 8 "Income you are using from anyone in your household..." - as we have financial co-mingling shouldn't we declare my income? However, we filed for married separately and opted for not declaring my income but now I am not sure if that is correct. Can anyone help?

Household size: Did anyone else find the questions a little confusing? If you as a petitioner do not sponsor yourself, did you put a "0" (zero) or what did you write? The problem we are having is that if we place the figure one (1) in 5.1 and in 5.2 (1) again for the person NOT sponsored but again 5.3 shows another (1) for spouse - then the household size is 3 (three) but we are not? What am I missing???

Part 6- Question 7 would be the total gross before tax

Part 6- Question 8 you can put N/A from 8. to 19. IF the sponsor is making above 125% poverty line on part 6  question 7 TOTAL income.

*** I put mine on part 6 question 8 of my children benefits income based on my social security disability to meet 125% poverty line ***

As a petitioner put 1 " yourself " , part 5 on question 1 you enter from part 3 item 29 on how many intending immigrant ( if its just your spouse ) then put 1,,, then you see part 5. question 3.... for spouse if your spouse is the intending immigrant you put ZERO. And put the numbers if you have any dependent children. For the other dependent children, I am not sure about that one so let others chime in to answer with experience. Hope this helps

You won't want to double number if the spouse is the intending immigrant. If you petition for your parents, siblings or stepchildren then yes you need to put 1 for spouse :D

Thank you so much - just to clarify, I added the items in question. My husband has two children but not living with him. But including the kids, we still have one person too many in our household size. We are two adults plus two kids. If I understand you correctly, I would have to write the following:

(I took a picture of the relevant I-864 and added it as a pdf below):

5.1 - 1

5.2 - 1

5.3 - 0  --> Although the original question asked is "if you are married, enter "1" for your spouse? Is this because 5.1 already states that and otherwise 5.1 and 5.3 would mention the same person twice?

Thank you so much for your help!

And as for 6.7 I am using the line 22 on the first page of the 1040 (Income) or line 36 (adjusted gross income)?

You would want to put the gross total on 6.20 not 22 the same from 6.7 the total. I dont see line 36? Im sorry if Im confusing hehe

I think the way I phrased it, it was rather unclear. I was referring to the lines on the 1040 because I am not sure which value we need to take for the I-864. Should I carry over the Income Value or alternatively the adjusted gross income that I can find on the 1040?

Yes. Did you get your welcome email? If not, this is completely normal. It won't let you into the online payment system. If you already have, give it a day or two before you access the online payment, the website has some issues from time to time.

I think you have to pay for international calls. But it should be cheaper than direct international calling.
