Hi. We are approaching our 1 year filing of AOS from K-1. We filed in June 2017. The medical exam was done April 2017 and entry to US was May 5, 2017. Will a new medical be necessary if AOS is not approved soon?  Thanks for any input.

The results of your medical exam are valid one year after the date of submitting your application. So yes, if your interview is scheduled later than within a year you will have to redo the medical. I'm in the same boat. We submitted the paperwork in June 2017 and there's no interview in a foreseeable future. The waiting is killing...

Thanks for replying. I checked your timeline. You guys are about 3 weeks behind us. So, do you plan to schedule a medical or wait until you get an interview date?  What if you don’t get an interview and are approved but it has been more than a year since filing AOS?  Will we still need a medical?  So long it is taking, I agree!

Since we're in Houston which is notoriously slow, I plan to wait until the interview notice comes and then redo the medical. I don't want to waste money on one more (or two because we have K2) pointless "exam." I know people who've been waiting over two years for their interviews in Houston.

If your interview gets waived and you receive your GK in the mail, you're good without a new medical. It may happen. One more reason to wait with scheduling a new exam.

The whole medical exam thing and the necessity to redo it because USCIS doesn't do its job properly irritates me. What has changed since I came here regarding communicable diseases of public health importance? Why check me once again for TB, or gonorrhea, or syphilis?

Very true!  Where do you plan to find a legitimate doctor to do the exam?  Google?  Thanks for your help and good luck to you two.

One can be found on the USCIS website https://my.uscis.gov/findadoctor.

Thank you and likewise, good luck to you! I sincerely hope that your interview notice is coming and you won't need another medical exam.
