Ok let me sum this up:

 

ds-160 asks for petition number (this is international)

 

interview depends on the group your country is in, may ask for ds-160 confirmation number (this is all it asked from us) or may ask for case ID.

 

So you can submit ds-160 but interview is a different system.

Yes, it is for the interview application at the embassy. I'm on the same page right now too, trying to schedule mine...

Case number really depends on the embassy but you don’t need it for ds-160.

 

you may need it for that place you showed (which is just a few pages not a big form) for appointment.(inmy case it only asked for ds-160 confirmation number)

Hey @BnK  I think the case ID you are filling out is the case number from NVC. Because you see the instruction, it says for example GUZ something. GUZ stands for Guangzhou, China, meaning it is impossible that it would be the case number in your NOA 1 AND 2.
