My oath ceremony was yesterday and i became USC. Today i received a call from USCIS office saying, They need the copy of my Certificate to put on file and sent out.

I went to USCIS office, and drop off the copy of my certificate, not the same officer but someone collected it.

Wonder if anyone else ever had same experience?

why would they need a copy of your naturalization certificate if they are the ones issuing it? the only thing i can think, is that either they made a mistake and naturalized you or they found something that made you not qualify after the ceremony.

Personally, I have heard of this happening to only two other people.

The office that administers your oath is not always the same office that creates and issues the actual certificates.   In other words, USCIS are not able to just "create a new certificate" in your name. Instead, they plain-copy the naturalization certificates as they are initially created (which is then added to your entire immigration file).  It's possible the plain-copy of your certificate was not made at the time it was supposed to...human error.

In the case of the two people (completely separate cases) I know who had received this same request to "drop off" their naturalization certificates after their oath ceremony---the above was pretty much the explanation given to each of them.

Would be curious to know if you received any further explanation from the officer when you went down to the field office to drop it off?  I'm assuming you asked why they need it...

The officer at the counter took the copy and I asked him, why they need the copy?

He said they need the copy to complete my file and sent it off.

He apologise for inconvenience , said thank you for dropping it off.

You are right , my cermony was 3 hours away from USCIS office. A totally different court house.

maybe it’s a human error, god knows what?

Well I am US citizen :) this all matters .

by the way I applied for passport the same day I was sworn in.

“ Going thought “ thank you for your positive remarks.
