I didn't send the full joint tax returns with form i751?

I sent in form i-751 with my husband a little over a week ago and for some reason it did not occur to me that I should send the complete tax returns instead of just form 1040. I only sent the form 1040 for the past three years because it included both of our names. Now I realize that I may have made a mistake by not including our full tax returns. I was so hung up on finding documents that include both of our names. I also received a notice of action letter from uscis reminding us to submit form i751, but I think it got lost in the mail because it was returned to uscis at the end of march. It was sent back to us and I finally received it yesterday with a red stamp that says action completed approved for filing and the date 4-21-18. I'm assuming this stamp means that they received our application to remove conditions but they decided to send us this 120 day reminder notice anyway? I feel so disappointed in myself about the tax returns, can anyone offer any advice?

The likelihood is that you will get an RFE for your full tax returns (or transcripts). It is theoretically possible to submit extra information without having been asked for it, but with the backlogs being what they are, I think it's a wasted effort to send additional paperwork, only to have it lost and not appended to your file. 

 

What I would do if I were you is to apply to the IRS for transcripts of your last 3 years taxes (and also 2017's, since they will likely want the most recent). The transcripts will be only a few pages each, and are actually preferred by USCIS. Then make copies of them and keep the copies (all ready to send - you can also keep copies of bank statements etc from when you applied to now) until you get an RFE. That way you can send everything out really quickly to minimize your delay.

When I did my ROC, we did not send irs transcripts. We only sent the 1040 tax returns pages from our accountant. They never requested to see the transcripts in my case. You can start requesting them if you feel they can send you an RFE for it.

Hi, OP here. just wanted to post an update. We got the receipt notice a few days ago extending my husband's green card one year. My advice to someone viewing this question and in a similar situation, do not stress like I did until you hear back from USCIS!
