So, I hadn't been able to get an Infopass appoitnent for the last three weeks and sure enough my GC expired.  I called again the day after it expired and they bumped it up to urgent and within two hours I was able to get an appointment for Monday for an extension stamp.  Phew!

I was told that they actually won't take my GC they will just add a sticker to it extending it for one year while I patiently wait for my interview date.

Sorry for all the trouble you have to go through. Sending you good vibes for an interview soon.

Thank you!

I got the 1 YR extension stamp this morning.  It took longer for me to drive there than it took for the appointment, HA!    Appointment was at 9:55AM, got there at 9:35.  There were only two people in front of me in the queue, i got called within about 5 minutes of sitting down.  Really nice IO, he looked up my file and stamped my passport, gave a quick punch hole to my expired GC. I was driving out of the parking lot at 9:58.

I did ask if there was any info on my interview date (didn't hurt to ask), He just said I was in queue and to wait for a letter. No new information but felt nice to hear it from someone actually looking at my file.. LOL

Called the USCIS yesterday to check on the status of my Oath ceremony. As expected, they couldn’t say anything specific and I got an expected “We do not know how long till you get your Oath scheduled. You have to wait a bit more. Hopefully a few more weeks.” It will be almost two months soon and still my ceremony isn’t scheduled. Is anyone in the same boat?

Sorry @mjs2020. Still no news on my end as well. I am hopeful to get some news next week but that's just a guess.

Hopefully they do provide some insight or push the case forward somehow. Based on my interaction with them it’s unlikely though. Let us know what they say though. Good luck :)

Thank you. I'm hoping so as well, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much. Others have had interviews after us and have been scheduled (or already attended!) their oath ceremony and it seems like there is no rhyme or reason to their system.

I used the Ask Emma chat feature as our personalized timeline is down for maintenance on the account and I was told that we have to wait 120 days more from an inquiry made 3/16. I asked if that meant that the original 120 days doesn't count and they said that's correct. 😫 Now I don't know whether to reach out to the ombudsman after the original 120 days or really wait 120 days from the USCIS timeline. 😵

Whatever happens, we'll let you know!

Perhaps reaching out to the ombudsman is better since, clearly reaching out to USCIS doesn’t work. In my case, since I’m changing the name, they have a perfect excuse lol. But you’re right it doesn’t seem to be any pattern in who and when gets the oath.

I agree. I wish there was more transparency regarding this process. I'm hoping we won't have to follow up with the ombudsman after 120 days, but its USCIS😅

Haha yeah… I don’t think there’s anything really that can force USCIS to move faster.

According to Lawfully app, though, from the people who applied in April and got the approval I’m the only one without the oath/Naturalization certificate so far. Idk why my case is taking longer.

On April 23rd I had my oath ceremony, I'm officially a US citizen! I got there 15 minutes before my appointment time and went through security then up to the second floor. There was someone there to double check my letter and asked me to sit in a specific place in the waiting room. They then called people up one by one based on where they were sat up to the check in desk. Someone was there to ask some of the questions that you answer on your letter, then he took my greencard and I got a number on a little US flag. I was then instructed to sit in a specific place based on my number, I saw a little commotion when (I'm assuming) the wife of an applicant was there and insisting that she needed to be in the room. I couldn't hear exactly but eventually they convinced her to wait outside since only interpreters were allowed in.

The person who ran the ceremony was miserable, haha. Very solemn about the fact that we don't get the full ceremony because of Covid. He mentioned that "just because you're not getting the full ceremony doesn't mean it isn't special" and Covid this Covid that about 3 times. He then went on to say the usual speech then made us all swear the oath, then we gave ourselves a round of applause and sat back down and waited to be called up one by one to get our certificate. We got a very stern warning to check our certificates for errors, because if we leave the building and there is a mistake we'll be charged $600 to change it. Once I had my certificate in hand I went into the waiting room, checked it (all good) and left. I overheard someone asking if we needed to sign the certificates there and then but an IO said no, sign it later. No passport application area, no photos allowed inside, it was very much an in and out situation. For me, that wasn't necessarily a bad thing, since I'm not one for ceremonies! Would've appreciated someone a bit more light hearted though to welcome me in as a citizen not some doom and gloom man 🤣

Since Social Security offices are closed and passports are appointment only, I decided to apply for my passport first since I'll have to mail my naturalization certificate with my application and then once I have my passport I can use my passport to change my SSN card. Glad to almost be done with the process, happy to have had a place like VJ to help me since 2015, and to everyone else still waiting hang in there and I hope you get results soon!
