I was an Atlanta filer too but they scheduled me for the interview at the Montgomery AL office for today. It was only a just-under-2hr drive, as opposed to the slightly-over-1hr-with-no-traffic to Atlanta, so it worked out for us. Interview was actually super fast and easy so I am not complaining they sent me there! And now my oath ceremony is already scheduled as well, so I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that this whole thing will be over very soon!

The K1 journey:                                                                                                                             The AOS journey:

11/09/2013 - I-129F Packet mailed to Dallas Lockbox                                                                                         06/22/2015 - AOS packet mailed to Chicago Lockbox

02/14/2014 - Case shipped to Embassy, where it waited for over a year at my request                                 11/07/2015 - AOS approved (EAD and AP had already been approved) - there was no interview

05/21/2015 - Interview - Approved

06/19/2015 - Wedding (L)

The ROC journey:

10/12/2017 - ROC packet mailed to VSC

01/21/2019 - ROC Approved - there was no interview

The N-400 journey:

02/16/2020 - N-400 application filed online

02/21/2020 - Paper NOA received in the mail

03/13/2020 - Biometrics

02/02/2021 - Interview & test - Approved

02/05/2021 - Oath Ceremony

Oath is scheduled for this Friday!

I had initially requested a name change but I waived it at the interview because courts are closed due to Covid and it would delay my ceremony for up to a year, if not longer. I would rather get the ceremony done now and change my name later than wait.

Is that for real?  Would you really have to wait that long? Damn.

Have anyone who had requested a name change got their oath scheduled? How long did it take?

Courts are closed. Name change can't be approved without a judge, so, yeah, for real. Depends on where you are, of course, but it seems to be the case throughout Georgia.

Oh wow! I requested a name change as well (I have been divorced for 4 years), I wonder if they take into consideration where in GA you live.  I know the City of Atlanta Courts are open and working.

Fingers crossed!

Also Congratulations on the end of you Journey. 🙂

Is there a link? Cuz I see on the Georgia court websites that courts in Atlanta, Rome, and Athens are all open and conduct Naturalization ceremonies once a month.

I'm changing my surname from my maiden name to my married name (we were married on paper, but wanted to wait until we had a ceremony to change it), but I've read on the forum that if you're doing that then it's not classed as an official name change. I filled out my N400 with my married name, an IO saw that I was changing it but she just wrote some code on my form during biometrics and it wasn't a big deal. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't cause a delay!

Thanks for looking this up, that's good to know! Maybe because of SparklePony's location they were using information local to AL and not GA?

We live 20 minutes from the airport - we're definitely in the greater Atlanta area and every single thing I have done in regards to immigration, both for me and my kids (different timeline as mine) has been done in the city. I have no clue why they sent me to Alabama for this last step.

I don't  have a link for the information I conveyed. This was what was told to me at the Montgomery office, by the three different officers who processed my case (check-in, interview, and approval). The first officer also mentioned that they're processing a lot of Georgia cases, even more so than Alabama. My thinking is that things got backed up due to Covid and they're having the Montgomery office take on part of the case load to help with the back log, but this is merely a guess on my part.

Very odd they'd tell you the courts were closed if their websites are listing them as open! Even though they sent you to Alabama, I'm glad you got your interview done and dusted! They probably are taking on the backlog as you said.
