Mistake with k-1 visa expiration date

My fiancée finally received her k-1 visa yesterday from the U.S. embassy in Moscow.

However, they made a big mistake. They put the wrong expiration date on her k-1 visa, the expiration date is a few weeks from now !!!

Both of us have called the embassy a thousand times and there is nobody of authority to talk with.

We both wrote to the embassy.

My fiancée got a response from someone at the embassy ( the response was written in Russian), they told her to bring her passport to the embassy.

They said she must put her passport in a box at the gate, she cannot go inside the embassy !!!

I am having difficulty with this, if they made a mistake with something so simple as to her expiration date on the visa, how do I know they will not lose her passport?

The person inside the embassy who will open the box , how will he know what to do with her passport ?

How will they know why my wife's passport is there without her being there in person to explain this ??

Should I even trust them ?

If by some chance they lose her passport then it is all over !!!

Of course they don't take responsibility if they lose someone's passport,

Has anyone had any similar experience with the United States embassy in Moscow?

Should she even go and leave her passport in a box at the gate ?

Any advice or similar stories will be appreciated !

It is very bad that the United States embassy in Moscow works so inefficient, even with staff reduction.

Leaving something so valuable as a passport with a visa stamp inside a box at the gate is a ridiculous process !!

When did she do her medical ?   It should be 6 months from that date .   That is why it is bed to do the medical too early

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Medical wasn’t done too early , it was only a few weeks ago .

Mistake on her expiation date has nothing to do with medical .

Very simply , they made a huge mistake !!

I see only 2 options here.  Can she be ready to leave in a few weeks?

It has everything to do with the medical. The visa expiration date is based on the medical exam date.

For example; I had my medical on June23rd 2016 and my visa was valid until Dec23 2016 --exactly six months. Hence why NigeriaorBust asks.

And if she's ready to leave within three weeks --do not bother and get on a plane ASAP.

No , she can’t .

In other words , don’t trust the American Embassy with her passport ?

No one has said that you shouldn't trust the consulate.....except you.......If she can't leave within a few weeks, then you have no choice other than following their standard procedure.

Had a somewhat similar problem many years ago with an issue on my fiancees daughters visa.  Fortunately I was in Moscow to make sure things were correct.  Had to leave her passport and a few other documents including a new delivery payment (DHL at the time) at a box at an Embassy annex.  I too was a little worried but it all worked out.  As I recall it was an inside location and I was able to confirm with someone there that I was leaving it in the correct place.

It all worked out.

Can she make an appointment? If not I guess she just should follow what she was told. Things happen and not just in US embassy in Moscow. I had a mistake on my paperwork in USCIS Washington. I'm sure everything will be all right. Good luck to you!
