Tax returns vs Tax transcripts

Hello guys,

I have just submitted my application online and have a question about the required tax documents.

As you know, when it comes to upload them, it is specifically asked to upload “tax returns for the last 5 years” and so I did.

However, I also came across a thread where it was suggested to use the tax transcripts instead as this would avoid the need of uploading other supporting documents like the w2.

Now, what I did was uploading the tax returns where I was asked to and then - after paying and submitting the application (since I read that thread only later) - I also uploaded the tax transcripts in the part dedicated to RoE (“other documents”).

Do you guys think I did it right?

From what i understand, they would require a Tax Return Transcript from the IRS... I am assuming you were required to upload them for continuous residency purposes, since it is not a requirement for filing under the '5 year rule' (they are needed for  the 3 yr rule as proof of bona fide marriage).

Since you already submitted both, i think you should be fine. Just bring it all with you to the interview. You can also easily explain yourself to the IO, if he/she ask.

Good luck on your journey.

Thanks Life_love for your contribution.

You are right, apparently I was required to upload them (tax returns) since I am lacking a 5 years continuos residency (I had a trip of 8 months at the beginning of my permanent residency).

I uploaded the tax transcripts as well (since I read they are “more effective”) so like you said I should be fine document-wise and I always have the chance to explain the gap of 8 months at time of interview.

Wish me luck!

You will be fine, I ended up sending both!

Thank you, Abhay.

May I ask you if you were falling in the same category as mine (trip outside the States longer than 6 months but less than 1 year)?
