Hi people,

It may still be a long way but when my mom's visa comes, I would like to break up the trip from the PHL to visit family in Vancouver and to make things easy for me, mom and two toddlers. Can my mom be accepted to Canada with just her Philippine passport with the I-551 stamp on it? I understand it's a little tricky to travel to Canada first before entering US but it will be convenient for all of us. Thanks.

Do you mean travel to Canada before she enters the US with her immigrant visa? If that’s the case she won’t have an I551 stamp, just a visa for the US as she won’t be a LPR yet. So if Filipinos usually need a Canadian visa then she will still need one. She can only enter Canada visa-free once she is a US LPR.

Yes, that's what I meant. I just realized that the visa stamp on her passport would be valid only upon endorsement. I should check on how to get a visa for her just to be sure we could get to Canada without any hassle. Thank you!
