Hello,

So I am new to this whole forum thing so please bare with me. So my fiancé and I registered for a K1 visa and our case got approved YAY!! Now with that being said the email said that they would mail our approval notice and to follow the instructions in the notice. Can anyone break down what we would need to do once we get that notice and how long it will take to get that notice in the mail? Also once we have done all of those papers how long will it take for them to get back to us with a interview date in Montreal? And our last question is how far out is that date usually set in Montreal?  PLEASE PLEASE if you have any information at all that could help we would really appreciate it. We are both young and in school and just wanting some answer and we would listen to any guidance from people that have done this before! This is such a awesome community/forum of people and we truly do appreciate it!

Welcome!

Montreal does everything by email, so you won't get anything by mail.

Once you have an NVC number, you can check your CEAC status.

When your CEAC status says Ready, NVC has transferred your case to Montreal and the embassy has it. Montreal will then email you Packet 3 (when they are good and ready). It seems to be taking 3-4 weeks after your status updates to Ready for them to send you Packet 3. Your fiance will fill out the DS-160 at that time, submit Packet 3 via email and then you'll wait for Packet 4 which will allow you to schedule the interview. The earliest dates reported recently for MTL were the 3rd and 4th weeks in May on random dates. June dates havent opened up as far as I know.

Some people used to recommend just sending Packet 3 when your status said ready, but most lately have reported that Montreal simply replies back and tells you that you haven't been asked to send your Packet 3 and to wait until you are told to do so. It's your choice whether you want to roll the dice and see if you get lucky with a Packet 4 reply without them asking for Packet 3 first.

Montreal seems to be a pretty slow embassy. I'm an October filer and they're currently dancing around my dates, so I'm crossing my fingers I get approved soon so I can get in what seems to be a slow moving line at the MTL consulate.

Good luck on the next steps and keep us posted on how long things take for you. Filling out a timeline would be especially helpful :)

Hope it helps!

R

Gotcha! Sorry one more question how long does it take from when you get your NVC number to when your status says ready?

Go to the Canadian regional forum for all questions Montreal as you need answers from Canadians who have transited and are familiar
