Supposed to visit Canada in 2 days, just realised my conditional green card was left in my husband card which was recently totalled and in a junkyard.

As the title states, I'm supposed to go to Canada to celebrate my birthday with my family this week end. As I was packing my stuff, I realised that my conditional green card has been left in the car in which my husband got in a bad car accident 2 weeks ago (no one was hurt). Only my husband was in the car and right as it happened he gathered the important stuff (so he thought), when he asked to go back and check the car one last time he was told that he couldn't and the car was towed. To make it worse, he was told a week later that his car had been lost at the junkyard. So there's really no way for me to track it back. 

 

Now 2 weeks later, a couple days before my trip I just realised all this....

 

I tried to google, but I'm panicking and I can't seem to find the answers I'm looking for.

 

What should I do? Can I still travel? I'm going by bus so my tickets weren't that expensive, but of course I'd really like to make this trip happen and I got other travel plans this summer......

 

Btw, I am in Boston and I'm Canadian/hold a Canadian passport.

You need to get a I551 stamp in your passport and apply for a replacement (Not cheap)

You'll be able to get into Canada as a Canadian citizen, no problem. 

 

Your issue will be re-entering the States, unless you have the i-551 stamp as physical proof of your status.

 

You'll want to make an infopass appointment (or try a walk-in with proof of your imminent travel)....and you'll need to file an i-90 to replace the lost card.

As an aside..unfortunately might not be the answers you were hoping to hear/looking for....but it's really the only solution to your current situation.  Best of luck.

Thank you, really appreciate you replying and I will do what you suggested. There are no appointments available until next week. I might just show up in the morning anyway.

 

I was wondering, can I use my EAD/AP if it's still available??

 

Also, there's a stamp in my passport from back when I was paroled and it says it's valid until June 20th.... I wonder if the EAD/AP becomes invalid once you get a green card or if it's valid until the date on it...

AP is and adjustment of status thing, now you have LPR status, your GC is evidence.

You mean use it to enter the US upon returning?

 

No.  You are now required to use the GC (or i-551 stamp).
