Hi,

I recently came across this on the government website:

"USCIS has the general authority to require and collect biometrics (fingerprints, photograph, and/or digital signature) from any applicant, petitioner, sponsor, beneficiary, or other individual residing in the United States for any immigration and naturalization benefit." https://www.uscis.gov/forms/forms-information/preparing-your-biometric-services-appointment

Therefore I'm wondering if the sponsor - who in my case won't be my American husband-to-be but someone in his family - ever needs to give his biometrics? In our situation it's someone who doesn't have a very flexible work schedule so I would just like to know how likely it is that they'll be requested to make an appointment.

Thank you!

Generally no, not that I have ever heard; but as the statement says "has the general authority to require".... meaning they can; but never heard of them doing it.

That is a great question.  I have never heard of anyone here needing fingerprints from the co-sponsor at this stage.  It may be different for AOS.  The co-sponsor at this level is not legally responsible (I-134 is not enforceable).  At AOS, the co-sponsor is liable and legally held responsible.
