I am adjusting status from a K1 visa and my combo EAD/AP expires on 15th September. I was hoping to travel home from 1-11th September for a wedding.

Firstly, is this foolish to apply for re-entry so close to the expiry date of the AP document? I understand I have to allow for unforeseen circumstances, hence why I was planning to leave the 4 day gap.

Secondly, I was planning applying for renewal of the EAD/AP combo card this week, as the processing times at my field office are very long so it looks entirely unlikely I will have my GC by September. Let's assume the renewal wasn't processed in time for my travel in September. Is it possible to use the current EAD/AP while I have a renewal application pending? And what would happen if the new document were approved when I was outside the US - would this invalidate the document I had in hand?
