AOS interview successful, but waiting for FBI name check

Hey all,

I took a break from here because my job had me working 24/7. I expected to come back and see a bunch of people cleared from the list and well I am very diappointed. This is the one thread where you WANT to see people fall off! Poo on the FBI!

I am about 4 months past interview now so going to call the hotline as the officer suggested. I know it will do no good, but why not...then infopass...blah

I'm currently out of town with very sporadic email access but I just wanted to drop in to day we got a belated christmas present from the USCIS (if you get touched 2 days in a row it is a good sign!) - we are now approved as of Dec 22!

However, just because we are approved does not mean I won't be a regular on this thread -- I have used my christmas downtime to write letters to Senators Feinstein and Boxer on the issue and my US representative Jane Harman. I plan to actively take part in any support I can for people dealing with this issue. I realize my wait has not been as long as many of you, but I certainly know the horrible feeling of having your whole life in some bureaucrats hands and putting your life on hold, and how much it sucks to see people get speedy approvals when you have to play the waiting game.

When I have more time I'll write and PM in more detail - see you in few days!

congratulations, robinlake! yes, we were touched a couple times in a row right before approval, too.

re: infopass appointments (we've had MANY)...i know it's a pain...but we unfortunately found that we got a lot better treatment at the USCIS office if I, the USC, went along. when Anthony tried by himself, he was easily dismissed with no real answers...but when I was along, they were a little more willing to spend some time investigating whatever it was we wanted to know, and actually giving us the answers we needed.

as far as calling the 800 number...i never found it to be of any use at all, other than the fact that we did get a letter sent out to our district office informing them that we were outside normal processing times. that letter was sent to the KC office on October 12, we were touched October 28, we received a response letter from the district office November 3 (telling us to wait 6 months before calling them again!), and we were approved November 13. so...i dunno. maybe that actually did something to speed our approval after all?

Dani, I believe in your case you did the absolute right thing. It became pretty apparent even to me from this distance that your case was stuck in that office.

I often wonder where the cases do get stuck, and the percentage of each level of 'stuck-ness' - lol.

It seems USCIS blames the FBI and the FBI blames USCIS for delays. I used to think our case was stuck with the FBI but now I'm no longer sure. I'm confident it's not stuck at the Pittsburgh office, but I'm beginning to think the case could be lying on another USCIS desk somewhere........

I haven't been active in this thread,but I have been waiting for FBI clearance 5 monhts after interview.This morning I got 3 emails,that welcome letter was sent That is the best the end of the year I could ever think of.

Hey All,

I had my interview July 17th (2006) and was told I was approved pending my FBI namecheck...

Over 5 months waiting and not a word...

No USCIS touches since End of August...

Is anyone else around this timeframe still waiting?

I'm just wondering is this about time, and should I start chasing things up?

My work authorization is good through 1st May, so I'm not in any immediate rush, just want to know what the hell is taking so long!

Hi all,

Just stumbled on this thread, with a sinking feeling... My husband (Russ, England) had his AOS interview on October 19 in Helena, Montana. The officer said he was approved and should expect the green card to arrive within 3-4 weeks. He noticed then that the 'FBI approval' line was the only one not checked on her list, but she didn't say anything about it. She took his EAD and his advanced parole documents, and said we wouldn't be needing them. We made an infopass appointment for Tues 2 of January to figure out what's up, but they called today to cancel, and told us that the security clearance is the hang-up.

Questions... They didn't stamp his passport at the interview. Is it worth going back to ask for an I-551 stamp if he hasn't cleared? Has anyone ever had any luck asking for them to return an EAD that was taken in the interview? And can you apply for an EAD renewal if you are in limbo?

ooooh they took your AP & EAD?? i would be pissed! hopefully they were set to expire shortly afterward.

Several of us have renewed our EAD & AP when stuck in this situation.
