AOS interview successful, but waiting for FBI name check

Yes it's in the upper right hand corner of the IAP-66.

Hmm. They must have changed it, mine doesn't have it. In fact despite living here for almost 8 years on various work visas, I've never had an "A-Number" until I filed for AOS.

I guess it does come up when you're applying for a visa, I had forgotten about that. Actually this reminds me of my interview where the interviewer asked one of the "No" questions wrong, forcing me to answer yes. She said: "Have you ever had a J-1 visa and not returned to your home country for 2 years", where she should have asked "You are or were a J-1 or J-2 exchange visitor and are subject to the two-year foreign residence requirement and you have not complied with or been granted a waiver of the requirement."

I had to answer that yes, I had a J-1, I hadn't returned to my home country, but I wasn't required to as I wasn't covered by 212(E). Made for a nervous moment while she demanded to look at my IAP-66 and all the other stuff, just because she didn't ask the question correctly.

I did not check this thread or USCIS update for almost 2 months (kind of tired of the same "NO update" after 2 infopass since 6/29 AOS interiew), but when I went to USCIS site last night and check. I got a touch, and this morning, another touch.

I kind of heard something interesting the other day about FBI name checks.

I was at the uscis office on tuesday getting my biometrics done and had to wait 5 and a half hours before i got them done because it had been snowing alot in washington state and so no one could get into work as the roads were so bad, so only one biometrics person was there when usually there are 7 people doing it.

ANYWAY point is, because they had so few people working at uscis that day they had people from all over just substituting in different areas. So the lady that was processing all the biometrics and calling people up etc actually worked 'upstairs' doing the interview and other parts like that.

so while i was waiting in the room for my turn to come another man from 'upstairs' came down to speak to this lady and said to her 'i should have you down here more often, without you to distract me i managed to get 9 fbi name checks done. one was from december 2004, been meaning to get to that one for a while, oh well at least its an early christmas present for someone"

when i heard it i was totally confused, ive never really understood what the fbi namechecks are for but i know that some people get stuck on them for a really long time and this man had managed to do 9 in 5 hours so why do they take that long? seems like they cant be bothered to get around to them or something or maybe its more than that i dont know. anyway thought i would share.

ps biometrics appointments and snow really dont mix!

Burralow, that sounds like the supervisor signing off on files in his office. Lord only knows how long ago the FBI actually got the completed checks back to his office.

He has had his boimetrics done twice, the last time was about 8 months ago. I do hope this is the end of the background check and not the beginning.

I think you all whine too much at least you are with your spouse. I would give anything to be in the USA with my husband. Soon 2 years married but not togeather!!! so maybe on this thanksgiving you all should count your blessings. at least you get to carve a turkey togeather and enjoy your familys. This is the exact notice Marina received about two weeks after completing her biometrics; the same notice that Carina did not receive and is why I think lost biometrics led to her delay in being approved.

Since I do not see a note that you re-did your biometrics, I am guessing that somebody at USCIS found your biometrics and put them with your file and you are close to an approval now.

Just a guess on my part but I hope it's true!

If I get an infopass what is the possibility of getting a stamp on my passport? (Detroit) After our AOS interview I ask the guy if he can stamp my passport and they said they dont do this anymore... but today I have a friend who had AOS interview but she got stamp??? what is going on???

No stamp in Wes' passport because of namecheck.

Some offices don't even give the stamp if everything is good to go.

And probably some AO's are just cranky....

no stamp, no card, NO APPROVAL. its a misnomer that AO's state you are approved pending namecheck IMHO.

I received my Green Card today!

I filed for AOS at the end of January 2006, and had the interview in July - so the process did not take that long.

Ok well here I am again....

I think we've talked before in this thread about WHEN the namecheck actually begins. I for one always believed it began with the biometrics. I've got some information here that indicates otherwise.

Today we received a letter from Senator Byrd. Copied to it was an e-mail from his immigration liason, wherein she copied an e-mail from Micheal A. Cannon, Section Chief, National Name Check Program Section, Records Management Division, FBI.

First sentence reads: "A review of the FBI Namecheck Program database concerning *** revealed that a request was received from the United States Customs and Immigration Services on 11/23/2005, and is currently in a pending status".

As you can see from our timeline below, we received NOA1 for the I-485 on November 16, 2005.

As this email is from my Senator's office, and attaches the name of both his liason and Michael Cannon, FBI, I take this information to be accurate. Thus I believe we have our answer as to when namecheck begins - nearly immediately after filing and before biometrics.

And for all those watching it has been....

590 days since our immigration journey began.

395 days since we filed I-485.

384 days since the namecheck began.

272 days since our interview.
