AOS interview successful, but waiting for FBI name check

The reason that it takes a long time is depending on your cuontry of citizenship and birth, if the country does not "cooperate" with the US, the FBI and CIA have a difficult time conducting a name check (see if you're on any terrorist lists, wanted by any country, etc.).

This is incorrect. My wife is from Colombia and we know of several women from Colombia who had their interviews before and after hers that have received the approval letters (and some have received the Green card also.) So! Your theory is wrong!

I think it just depends on whatever happens with the individual's set of prints - who it gets assigned to and how well or badly they follow processes and procedures to do a check. (I have read of people from UK, Canda and others who are waiting - some of them are on this thread right now! So, its not limited to some strange rule like others had previously mentioned - of muslim countries etc. That theory they may be valid for a little delay is not universally true.) So! I am hoping that we will wait just a few weeks more and not 6 months or more like others had to wait. That will put a big chink in our travel plans to Colombia, Costa Rica, Europe and Asia - oh well! Las vegas - You take all our money then!

Timeline

We had our interview on 2/15 and were told we were approved, with no mention of a background check. The office said we should receive our card in 2-4 weeks.

Four weeks later, we made an infopass appt to inquire about the status of our card. The office could tell us nothing, and seemed aghast that we were told we'd receive the card in 2-4 weeks. According to her it takes 6months - 1 year. And I'm thinking to myself, "...but what about all those other people on VisaJourney???"

What could be happening here? Lost file? Slow process? Background check? Is there any way of finding out?

Thanks for all the replies guys 'n gals. I like motu's suggestion best, but I have to admit that we'd much rather drink the beer ourselves. At least that helps us to get through the wait!!

With luck it'll all end soon, but in the meantime I'm putting reminders in my calendar to renew the AP and EAD - just in case!!

Good luck to all who are waiting.

I m enjoying this thread. However, i will need also some points to clear out.

I didn't hear anyhting about name checks or other shits, but i m sending FREs and NOIDs at this moment.

When they start the name check thing? Is it during AOS process before interview or they start this thing as soon as ur paper work is completed?

However, we were told in interview that they he can't issue me GC today, as he needed two papers, fianancial and vaccination supplement.

Name check for AOS is requested after the biometrics are completed....that's where it seems to getting snagged in some cases.

Thanks to all for the guidance and support and speedy processing to all!

USCIS didn't tell us anything about a background check either. The officer said we were approved, my husband signed his green card and we just waited and waited. After two failed infopass appointments - we finally contacted our Congressman. USCIS wrote our Congressman saying other federal agencies were conducting background checks. Why couldn't they tell us that???

Good luck to you.

I had my AOS interview on Feb 22th I got a verbal approval but the immigration officer said she gonna mail the approval letter in 1week or 2 so i can get my passport stamped ect. I ASKED if she had the result of the FBI background check yet and she said "YES I got everything, everything looks great". Matter of fact its been almost 5 weeks and i didnt get NOTHIN! I went for an Infopass and they told me they cant do nothin before 90days from the day of the interview and i also been told: "You can try to write a letter to the officer that did your interview, she might remember your case!".But I honestly dont think its gonna help so i didnt write any letter... On the phone they said i gotta wait 120days,online my case is updated at september 2005.

We just gotta wait and see :(

Paola, you never know if it'll work until you try. Take 30 minutes and write up that letter to the officer. At the very least she'll receive a letter that is a patient reminder. I'd probably deliver it personally if you're in a position to do so or make sure to send it in the mail and require a signature to confirm she got it.

She may be able to offer information. You might also get a stamp in your passport from the Infopass to travel? Sorry to hear of the delay. :(

I received at the time of the interview some paper saying: "Results of Adjustment of Status Interview: You will get an approval letter in the mail" and without the approval letter i cant get the stamp..For travel purpose they said use your AP. Matter of fact im in italy now and if in ten days when i come back i didnt hear nothing from the immigration i will TRY to write to the immigration officer.. Hopefully my case is not lost in the "black hole"
