Update from michigan..

We made an infopass appt first week in April and found out FBI namecheck was approved and received at USCIS on march 31, 2007. Waited about a month....Still nothing, so first week in May we reconnected with our US Representatives liason office. The very nice lady responded the next day to our email and told us she would contact the detroit field office and inquire...again...

This time she phoned us a week later. She felt we deserved more personal contact than an email. She said she had talked to detroit and they did have our file in a pile and they did have the approved name check. In so many words, she told them to get movingon it pronto, as it is a disgrace and embarrassment how long these people have waited. They also told her the detroit field office was going through an audit (What's that all about??) and so it would take a few days. Our liason told us if we had not received our green card in 6 weeks to contact her again.

May 8... USCIS (out of Vt??) issued a letter requiring another appt on May 23 (at another field office..GR) to update fingerprints. SOooo...we will see what happens after that.

Our liason told us that part of the reason it has taken so longto process our application goes back to a paper error made during our K-1 interview in the Vancouver office back in 2004. They issued the same A# to both my wife and step son. So each step of the way, the computer system has spit out our application to be processed by hand by someone at sometime. Thus the piles...after pile...after pile...

Another thing she told us...no travel out of the countrly until this is resolved, ...even though they recently cashed our check to reapply for AP.

I have never been involved with such a bureaucratic fiasco in all my 50 plus years. If we ran our lives as they run their business, we would be dead. We can only hope USCIS someday reaches a similiar demise.

I guess the bottom line is...mistakes cost us...not USCIS...even when they make them. Be persistent...be vigilant...be patient...

All the best to all those waiting...and waiting...

Mark & Laura, it sounds like you're on the home stretch. From what I've read on this board, having the fingerprints redone is the last step before the green card finally arrives. I think they "expire" (?!!) after 15 months. I'm sure my husband will have to do the same thing when his name check clears. It is a pain, but it must be encouraging to have some movement on your case after so long! That's curious that you were told not to travel until this is clear. If you have a valid AP, what's the problem?

Anyway, good luck.

Thank you...yes it is encouraging and now we are wondering how long between fingerprints and card in hand. As you can imagine, we are not counting the days or making any predictions. With these yahoos days have a way of turning into weeks and weeks into months, and...so it goes...

Regarding travel, our initial AP documents had expired. In March we reapplied. They cashed our checks and sent the letter saying 60-90 days to process, but apparently there will be no processing as long as our case is in it's current status. Maybe...just maybe we will get the cards instead...and hopefully the 10 year cards. Our rep said they would back date..whatever that means. Sounds like covering their sorry azzes.

The travel would not be too big an issue, but we have a special family trip planned for the end of June with my kids and Laura would certainly love to go with us. We are keeping fingers and toes crossed.

we worried that hubby's greencard would be approved while he is in Cairo for the month. Of course I freaked when the other day we DID get something USCIS associated. Regardless, as Dr Lha pointed out, if his status DOES change while out of the country with AP, they will probably just slap him on the wrist. At least that what we hope. He only has a week left on his trip so looks like we will be in the clear. :star:

So, if someone who has been waiting for GC approval for months or years and who leaves the country temporarily with a valid AP could be in some sort of violation if the GC is approved while he is away? That doesn't make any sense at all. Or am I misunderstanding something? (I'm not saying that I don't believe it--this is the CIS we're talking about--but that's crazy! What's the point of AP then?)

Laura & Mark, that makes more sense re: AP. It's probably inadvisable to travel if you don't have a valid AP.

According to rebeccajo, who seems well informed, you should get a 10-year card because you were married over two years ago.

Yes, Donna I did indeed write to Michael Cannon of the FBI but go absolutely no response at all. In fact it was our local senator that responds the most, checking up with the FBI every couple of months then sending me the 'pending' update.

Felt like a waste of time doing it actually.

OUR TIMELINE....

March 20th 2004 posted I-129f to VSC

March 22nd 2004 NOA1

May 26th 2004 recieved RFE via email

June 4th 2004 recieved RFE in post (photos were not dated, boarding pass had no year on it. oops!)

June 14th 2004 posted response to RFE

June 22nd 2004 VSC recieved response to RFE (dated 18/06/04)

JULY 1st 2004...101 days and STILL counting!!

July 7th 2004 WE ARE APPROVED!!

July 10th 2004NOA2 in post.

July 14th 2004 File sent from NVC to London.

July 28th 2004 Packet 3 recieved

August 12th 2004 sent packet 3 back.

November 1st 2004 Interview date.... APPROVED.

March 8th 2005 Arrive via Bos. Finally see my man again.

May 14th 2005 Our wedding day

June 10th 2005 sent in AOS forms.

August 16th 2005 Biometrics

Sept 6th 2005 Interview - went well....i think.

Nov 7th 2006 STILL awaiting FBI name check!!!!!!!! no green card, no touches, nothing. Getting a bit fed up with being in Limbo land. :0(

January 2007 wrote to senator, who in turn contacted FBI. Yes we are STILL in name check, they got our name in June 2005!!!

February 27th 2007 3 emails all saying the same thing. Fingerprinting processing is completed.

March 20th 2007 Have written to Michael Cannon head of FBI namecheck. Mentioned i am no longer amused :0(

April 28th 2007 Recieved letter asking me to go for third set of fingerprints!

April 29th 2007 Sent a letter to query the need for 3rd set of prints.

May 2nd 2007 USCIS replied - do NOT need a third set after all - go figure

What are the consequences of getting approved when you are out of the country? I am waiting for the FBI name check to clear and I need to travel using my AP. Will there be a problem if I get approved in the meantime?

Thanks,

S

i dont know if there are any consequences of re-entering the USA on an AP after the greencard is approved. Its speculation on my part, but upon approval of the AOS, your AP becomes invalid. This is why I am guessing IF the CBP does anything, it will be a slap on the wrist, because it's somewhat unavoidable.

I didnt mention this to worry anyone. Just something to think about.

I mean think about this insanity folks...

Our Visa Journey started in Nebraska, March 2004...I believe the files passed briefly through Chicago (someone needed to "touch" them) before arriving in Nebraska?

After wallowing in someones file pile in Nebraska for months...it was on to Vancouver BC. Only now we had to get there in person. Whatever...at least now Laura and the boys were able to move to Michigan, and we were could wade together though this mire.

What a wonderful marriage and honeymoon we had :dance:

Now was on to Detroit...but not before fingerprints in Grand Rapids. Progress eh...at least now they are in the same state as us. Instead of a four hour flight it is only a four hour drive. Yes, they want to see us AGAIN in person.

Now the real fun begins. The 6 weeks we were told turned into months that turned into years, as we wallowed in piles who knows were...FBI headquarters? Underground somewhere? Maybe we never left Detroit at all?? And they want me to believe this is the fault of the FBI??

Finally with the help of Congress no less, we have movement... May 2007. And where does the letter come from?? Vermont!!! How the hell did we get to Vermont...and now Vermont tells us we have to go back to Grand Rapids.

Whatever happened to Detroit? Did they go the way of Chicago and Nebraska and Vancouver and the FBI??

And to think they want to add 12 million more "illegal" aliens into this mess? Somebody has their head somewhere and it ain't in the clouds.

Now...to add insult to injury, we are involved in the current US Passport fiasco. This is loads of fun too. We get to spend hours on hold, listenting to elevator music, waiting for someone to tell us this is all "someone" else's fault. But "trust us"...it will only take a few days...or weeks...or months...or...

...

...

...

Don't get me wrong, I am proud to be an American...

But sometimes I feel like we are on some Titanic...slowly sinking into an abyss.

Keep dancing :dance::dance:

So, has anyone spotted any kind of pattern with regard to those delayed by the name check? (I've been waiting for about 6 months now -- nowhere nearly as long as some, I know)... Do most of us have common names? My last name is not so common, but my first name and middle name are -- in fact there are two somewhat famous people I can think of right away who have those names...

it just depends on if you get a name hit. common names here in the US can get false hits, and transliteration can cause delays. The average we have seen on this thread is 200 (+/-) days from NOA1. Of course there are some off the charts.
