I haven't seen anything about agencies leaving. Do you have a source for that (out of a genuine curiosity)? I know the embassy closed it's doors a few times . My husband and I have been watching closely and spend a long time scrolling through all the videos on our facebook feed to keep up to date on what's really happening since the Nica government cut off all the official news feeds. At least he can't stop facebook!

 

I would certainly shut myself in too with all the police attacking university protesters with real bullets and tear gas , killing journalists with snipers, and using the gov't funded JS and other Danielistas to raid stores without their stupid Ortega shirts to make it look like the students are doing it. It is SO awful what is happening and I hope the Nicaraguans don't stop until the Ortega Dynasty is gone for good along with all his paid puppets.

Reconsider travel to Nicaragua due to crime andcivil unrest.

On April 23, 2018, the U.S. government ordered the departure of U.S. government family members and authorized the departure of U.S. government personnel.

Political rallies and demonstrations are occurring daily, often with little notice or predictability.  Some protests result in injuries and deaths.  Demonstrations typically elicit a strong response that has in the past included includes the use of tear gas, pepper spray, rubber bullets, and live ammunition against participants and occasionally have devolved into looting, vandalism, and acts of arson.”  .  Ability to purchase food and fuel may be limited, and access to the Sandino airport in Managua may be blocked.  Both the Government of Nicaragua and the U.S. Embassy in Managua are limited in the assistance they can provide.

Violent crime, such as sexual assault and armed robbery, is common.  Police presence and emergency response are extremely limited outside of major urban areas. U.S. government personnel are prohibited from using public buses and mototaxis and from entering the Oriental Market in Managua and gentlemen’s clubs throughout the country due to crime. U.S. government personnel require special authorization to travel to the Northern and Southern Caribbean Coast Autonomous Regions due to crime and transportation safety concerns.

Has anyone heard of any further updates? My husband is scheduled for his visa interview May 15 and we will need to leave May 8 to get to his doctor appointment for his physical. I was wondering how far out anyone may have heard that their interview was being cancelled.

I don’t know about cancellations. My husband is still waiting on whether or not he is approved. It’s been 55 business days since he turned in the extra info that they wanted! Right now the US Embassy Nicaragua is closed due to the protests!
