Hi everyone

I just got recently married and me and my husband are getting ready to start the filing process for our CR-1 visa so I can move to the USA to be with him.

However, ive been married previously before years ago (to a different guy) and did a k-1 visa to move to the USA a long time ago. We ended up getting a divorce and I then abandoned my green card and moved back to Canada where im from.

Im sure for the cr-1 visa (and what ive been told) im gunna need my Divorce documents from my previous marriage stating my official divorce date. However, I never got a copy neither did my ex husband. I called the court office and talked to someone to try and get a copy mailed to me in Canada where I am and they said they would mail me a copy....this was over a month ago. Ive called many times and they always seem to say something different everytime.

"yes we mailed it"

"no we never mailed it"

"your not on file"

"I think we mailed it"

"we spelled the mailing address wrong"

etc

They told me my official divorce date over the phone, but I need the papers mailed to me.

I specifically spell out slowly and repeat my address everytime I call, triple check the address and get them to read it back to me to make sure its correct and ask them to make sure they will send it. And I just dont seem to be getting it in the mail. The court office is in West Virginia where I previously was married years ago. It shouldnt take almost 2 months to get a copy mailed to me in Canada right?

Is there any other way I can get a copy somehow anywhere of my divorce papers? would getting the office when I call to email me a copy so I can print out be fine for my CR-1 visa application?

Im lost what to do.

Perhaps have them mail a "Certified Copy" to your husband in the US.  He's the one who needs a photocopy of that certified copy.  They may not be affixing enough postage to get it to Canada.  Sometimes it's as simple as ignorance by clerical staff.

Or they may require you to go down in person sometimes. I had to go to the court twice to get mine. Different countries/states/provinces, different rules. See if someone from Canada can help you out with this.

Um, this divorce took place in the US, so somebody "from Canada" is of no help.

When someone from Canada calls and says to jump, they ask how high.   (Just having fun here!) 😁
