The venom thrown at PH in this thread is scary! I don't particularly like the girl, but I don't hate her either...she's a non-issue to me.

Big deal, she's rich and talentless...there are many who are. And her celebrity is also fueled by those who loathe her.

She should be in jail because what she did was very wrong. I've had friends killed by drunk drivers...hell, I watched one die in front of me on the street. It's not clever or big to drink and drive, and I hope she learns her lesson.

I don't think we hate her because she's rich and talentless....let me speak for myself...much safer: Until the recent legal event, having to hear about Paris Hilton was just annoyance. But now....that's a whole other beast. I don't hate her because she's rich, famous for absolutely no identifiable reason and talentless. I hate her because the pure luck of being born into the Hilton family makes her feel some sort of entitlement to special treatment in regards to the laws of our society. She's dangerous because she believes that the law doesn't apply to her. I happen to work at a drunk driving defense law office and if any of those clients pulled half of the sh*t she pulled the would have lost everything.

Clearly the system in LA is broken, and that makes me angry. But it makes me angrier that people like Paris Hilton feel that they are above responsibility for anything and can throw enough money at a problem until it goes away. It's the epitome of unfair and disproportionate treatment. And don't let anyone convince you that her sentence is some sort of miscarriage of justice. Just because people aren't sentenced to 45 days for violations of probation in LA, doesn't mean that Judges don't have the discretion to impose the maximum sentence if they feel like it.

It should be a non issue, it is a non issue, but people's fascination with money and envy of those who have it fuels these otherwise non issues. I don't relate to either the hatred of her, or the 'I'm a Paris fan'.

As for the actual case against her, she should be treated as any other person who breaks a parole agreement, no more, no less.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

she is a total non issue for me.

unfortunately when she tries to flaunt her "status" ... the public declares "open season" on PH

not saying this is right or wrong. it just is.

I have been wondering what the actual law or whatever would be in this case.... because people are saying that she may have been treated too harshly.... I think I found it...

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE (Section 32152(a) & ( B ) Vehicle Code)

If you are over 21 and have a blood alcohol level (BAC) of 0.08 or higher you will be arrested for driving under the influence (DUI).

* Immediate 30 day suspension of drivers license on the spot by arresting officer.

* Jail time ( night of arrest + 48 additional consecutive hours; 3 days in jail with BAC of 1.5; 4 days in jail with BAC of 2.0 or greater)

* Car immediately towed and stored at your expense.

* Upon conviction, loss of license for one year, court probation for three years and part of your driving for seven years. Breaking probation will result in ten days in jail.

* $1300 fine plus booking fee of $129, court costs and attorney fees. Up to triple increase in car insurance.

* Mandatory attendance of a alcohol information school; 14 weeks at the cost of approximately $300.

* Courts are now required to impose an additional 60 day continuous jail term if convicted of driving under the influence if person was also driving recklessly, or exceeded the speed limit by 30 mph.

from all that I am reading, it looks like Paris got treated just like anybody else would.. except for the getting released out of jail and then sent back part.....

she violated her probation.... and not just by driving a car with a suspended license.. she was speeding and driving at night with no lights on

Probation is a sentence ordered by a judge, usually instead of, but sometimes in addition to, serving time in jail. It allows the convicted person to live in the community for a specified period of time, sometimes under the supervision of a probation officer, depending on the circumstances and the seriousness of the crime.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I VIOLATE MY PROBATION OR PAROLE?

Free legal information for parole/probation law @ FreeAdvice.com. There are a number of options, ranging from a verbal warning to going back to prison to serve the balance of your sentence (or, if on probation, to sample prison life). For example, let’s suppose you receive a one-year suspended sentence, are placed on probation for three years, and, as a condition of probation, told not to drive a car. If you are caught driving a car during the 3-year period, you would more than likely be required to serve jail time.

She has a DUI, got probation, then violated her probation TWICE.

I wonder if anyone honestly hates her on a "personal" level - I don't.

I hate what she is and what she represents - fame merely for the sake of being famous (rather than earning it through natural talent), and the fact that her living and fame has been built on the back of her father's money and reputation. I think we'd be hard-pressed to find someone who wouldn't find that contemptible.
