Phone calls from US to Philippines

Hey everyone. Been a while since I last posted here. I am looking for a way to make calls to the Philippines that isn't too expensive. Since I met my wife a few years ago I used a service called Duo USA through Globe mobile. Essentially they take a Globe mobile cell phone in the Philippines of your choosing and and add a US based phone number to it. So I used the service to assign a US phone number to my wife's phone in the Philippines and since she came here a little over a year ago the number has been assigned to her mother's phone. This service allows unlimited calling for $10 a month (only from the US to the Philippines not the other way around). Unfortunatly I got an email from Globe the other day saying they are discontinuing the service at the end of the month.

My wife's family lives in an area with horrible internet service (and expensive even by US standards) so talking over the phone is the best option. My wife has adjusted to living in the US (even after the 2'+ of snow we got here in WI last week) but I know she misses her family. She talks to her mother every day on the phone. So I need to find a new way to call the Philippines with basically unlimited calling that isn't extrememy expensive (or take on another job). Any advice would be appreciated.

Look into getting Unlimited WIFI through this company https://www.ivideo.com.tw/english/

Its a SIM card that will give a you access to the internet anywhere you can get cell phone service with no capping. This is legitimate.

See how it works from Steve Montelli Destination Philippines on his YouTube channel. He swears b. It and has used it for a few months.

Do a search on YouTube for others using ivideo.

If you have Spectrum, you could get a global penny plan (now called "international calling" I think). You have to have a regular landline through them (about $20 a month), but once you do it is a $5 add on with middling quality service but unlimited usage.

Unfortunately we live outside of town where there is no cable.

We don't have cable, just phone service, but if you're out of area for one, you might be for the other as well.

Globe will be replacing the DUO product with this

we use vonage/globe 3000 it provides a vonage number in the us and connects to globe or tiny mobile in the Philippines, it provides 3000 minutes of service for 29.99 but fees and taxes bring that to $42, if you call and ask they will provide a 500 minute plan that nets out to exactly $24 per month, call clarity is ok and her family lives very remotely in Zamboanga Del Norte and we can connect 9/10 of the time, YMMV

So no internet...that kinda makes it difficult!! What cell provider do you have or are you using a land line? When I was using Verizon last year I paid an additional $20 a month for international calling, and it was unlimited on my cell phone to the Philippines.

I have verizon. In fact we have a seperate phone we tether to a computer for our home internet. We're looking at getting dsl but it's expensive here. If verizon has unlimited calling to the Philippines I'll have to look into that.

I looked into verizon and it's $15 a month plus about $.20 a minute. That's a little expensive for how much my wife calls home. I wonder what our options are of we have a decent internet connection.

You made a new message just as I sent one!

Anyway, wow they must have changed it because before it was unlimited minutes to make international calls, that sucks, sorry!

Well there are options like Vonage (I've used it before, it was ok), there is also the MagicJack, which I think is just an initial purchase of the device and then it's free as long as you have an internet connection. I haven't used the MagicJack for years though so I'm not sure what it is like now.

Using google voice is  $.10/min  no monthly fee to call a landline in the Phils .   They have an app you can add to your phone rather than using a computer.
