What are the effects on co-sponsor for support

My brother will be co-sponsoring my fiance. I don't like having to go this route, but it is a must to fulfill obligation of income guidelines. I want to know how my brother will be effected financially or when he goes to buy things here in the U.S. What about when he files his taxes and all of these types of things. He has to mention my fiance, me and my two children for 10 years?

If he buys a house, a car.... all of these things.

H&T, I am aware of the repayment of benefits if my fiance was to be given any. That isn't what I was referring to.

I am curious if co-sponsors have to claim us (me, my fiance, my two kids, any children we decide to have after marriage) on his taxes? When buying large purchases? When filling out any income documentations for himself or his own family?

How will this effect HIM and his life from interview forward? (other than the public assistance repayment which I am well aware of).

The I-134 to obtain the K-1 visa is not enforceable. It's a promise, but has nothing to compel enforcement of it.

The I-864 (for AOS after entry on the K-1 visa) is enforceable. This is legal contract to:

1) Repay the government if the person being sponsored uses certain means-tested benefits.

2) Ensure the intending immigrant maintains at least 125% of the federal poverty level.

 

From I-864 itself:

"What Does Signing Form I-864 Require Me To Do?

If an intending immigrant becomes a lawful permanent resident in the United States based on a Form I-864 that you have signed, then, until your obligations under Form I-864 terminate, you must:

A. Provide the intending immigrant any support necessary to maintain him or her at an income that is at least 125 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines for his or her household size (100 percent if you are the petitioning sponsor and are on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces or U.S. Coast Guard, and the

person is your husband, wife, or unmarried child under 21 years of age); and Notify U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) of any change in your address, within 30 days of the change, by filing Form I-865."

 

Neither the I-134 nor I-864 needs to be reported for any credit or loan application or anything like that.

If he sponsors anybody else (either directly or as a joint sponsor again), then he must include anybody covered by an active I-864 in his household size on that I-864.
