TRANSLATION

Please can someone help me with this...

 

My Spanish police certificate needs to be translated... can this be done by anyone or does a special company have to do it?  There is no way of finding this out... please can anyone help me.

 

 

All documents not in English must be accompanied by an official, certified translation in English. The translator must provide  a signed statement confirming that the translation is accurate.  Only one copy is needed. The translation does not need to be notarized.

If you Google online Spanish translation, you will find a few that provide the service.  We used different ones (you can upload and get a quote before committing), and were happy with them.  They know the drill, and the certification is maybe $10 more. 

 

I worried that the certification needed to be a mailed "wet" signature, but the emailed certificatation was fine.  The police clearances is a short document and isn't expensive.  You will get it back the same day. 

 

I won't publish the names of specific companies here, but if you want to know who I used, PM me.

Hey! Are you from Spain? if so, I did bring documents (like the police one) not translated and they accepted it. As long as the document is in Spanish or English, they will accept it.

Hi, no I am from the UK, I just worked in Spain for a little while so my spanish police certificate is in Spanish.

Anybody who will certify that they are fluent in both languages and sign off can translate. It does not have to be a paid company.

Well there used to be a long page on USCIS.gov that explained and even provided a sample "Certification" statement that could be used at the end of the translation. It was something like --

 

I Mary H. Jones do certify that I am fluent in both English and Spanish and the foregoing document translation is true and accurate to the best of my abilities.

"Certify" sounds fancy, but it means I promise or assure you that I can speak both languages and did an accurate job of it.

Don't translate yourself. I got the Spanish teacher from the local high school to translate something I was helping a friend with. She certified that she was competent and signed it.

I found an old post where somebody copied the suggested certification that was on the USCIS website. Their link now goes to a different page.
