I assume I need to be there for the interview.

Don't assume until & unless the embassy orders you to appear.

Contact the embassy and see if you can fax them.  The last thing they need is another Amcit to evacuate.

Steve, did you follow the recommendation from jan22 for transferring the file elsewhere?

TBoneTX,

I was told by the person I spoke to at the interview appointment scheduling number, that a transfer could take 2 months. And we would need to re-submit a DS-160, and have new medical exams. And relocate to Panama, where we have no friends or relatives. There is also a possibility that the petition could become lost in the transfer process. Our petition expires next month. When this appointment opened up suddenly, it seemed the most expedient way to complete the visa process.

Good thinking. I have never gotten anyone from the Nicaraguan embassy to speak to me on the phone. Which phone number or email address should I use to ask about this?

Was this scheduling-person a CO, or an LES (locally engaged staff -- nationals who help the American COs)?

Consulates routinely extend petition validity in 4-month increments for up to a year.

Re-read what jan22 has written above.  I assure you that no one on this site knows more about such situations.

Quit panicking!  This is stressful, but "keep head."

I'd try calling the U.S. Citizen assistance line to explain your situation and ask to speak with an American CO.

The number I have been calling is 703-745-5479. It is the number for scheduling interview appointments. Is listed as a Virginia number. What number should I call to ask about my new situation?

I have called all of the phone numbers listed at that link in the recent past. The 703-745-5479 number is the only one I have been able to speak to a human on. A human answered one of the other numbers once, but they hung up on me immediately when I asked a question. Which number do you suggest I call?

Embassy Telephone: +(505) 2252-7100
Consular Section phone: +(505) 2252-7888
2-229-1999 or 703-745-5479 from US
Consular fax: +(505) 2252-7250

Wow , congrats Steve... what did they said? You getting the interview in Managua when they said  there’s no more interview, this is confusing :(

KarenGSM,

The embassy in Nicaragua is not taking any new cases. People with petitions still being processed by the NVC must go to a different embassy. But cases that are already in the consular section of the embassy in Nicaragua are still being processed in Nicaragua. The embassy is just very slow, because they have a limited staff and are handling emergencies first.

I purchased my airline ticket to Managua, I will be flying there for the interview very soon. I am finishing up the last few items on my I-134 now.

Regards,

Steve

Steve- if you dont mind me asking, how did you manage to get that?? They told me the same thing about Panama, so I ended up staying in Nicaragua hoping that there will be some solution within the next 3 months. I have called every day and there has not been any available slots. Did they have to email you or did you just call at the right time, etc.?

Regardless, I am super happy for both you and your fiance and am hoping for the best for your interview!

10.bew.16,

I have been calling several times every week, and checking the status on the website where you can schedule appointments. There had not been any appointments available, and the people on the phone have always told me to call back next week. Last week, I got a slightly different response from the person on the phone. They noticed that I had called many times, and they told me they would put in a request for the embassy to create some appointments.

The next day, I received another email from the embassy. It was the same story, it just told me to call and schedule an appointment. Saturday morning when I was laying in bed, I decided to check the website again. Much to my surprise, I saw that there was one appointment date available on their calendar. So I immediately made the appointment. I received a confirmation email soon afterwards.

I can't believe it is real. I leave in a few days for Managua, hopefully it is real and I can get through the interview. I wish you luck. Just be persistent, keep trying.

Regards,

Steve

Finally we end the nightmare in the Nicaragua. We finished our process last week and received my fiance passport and returned the US together. We literally locked in the hotel for 2 weeks to finish all the process. I hope Nicaragua will be better soon and all the couples who is waiting will finish their as soon as possible.

Excellent news greys26!

What pieces of documentation and evidence did they ask you for at the interview?
