Hi I thought this would be interesting, I was always used to using a stick until I lived in the USA, my husband has an Automatic. One day I went to work and parked in a parking space, I could not get the keys out of the car ignition, I started to panic, I sat there nearly in tears wondering if I should phone the AAA for assistance, well this fella parked next to me and I plucked up the courage to ask him if he know anything about cars, he looked in the car and said " mam it helps if you put the thing in park" I could of died, right there and then I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me, so I much prefer to use a stick.

The first vehicle I learned to drive (age 15) was a 1986 full size GMC pickup with the stick on the collar. After learning to drive that, everything else was a piece of cake. But I prefer automatics of course.

The same thing has happened to my husband with the keys. He also uses the handbrake all the time as well, and it's an automatic. Drives me crazy.

Stick.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Prefer stick shift .... it is second nature now and the shifting doesn't bother me at all. Of course, I live in a fairly rural area. I might feel differently if I lived in a city. When I lived in DC, I drove an automatic.

Thats a funny story, but don't feel bad. A lady called 911 because she locked herself in her car!

The first car I drove at 16 was a five speed. Then I have driven an automatic ever since.

This summer, my sister is supposed to reteach me how to drive a five speed. My husband shudders at the thought of having to drive an automatic, so I'll suck it up. Besides, manuals get better gas mileage, etc.

that one was way funny ...she forget that little bit of information in a hurry lol...

i have driven both automatic and manuals...i learned in the manual to get my licence in oz but my first car was an automatic..either didnt bother me...

my prob with driving over here is remembering that the shift is on the right hand side instead of the left and you pull you pull the seatbelt out over your left shoulder while driving lol..im sure i will get the hang of it lol

thank goodness my hubby's jeep is an automatic...lol
