Engagement. Is it really necessary?

We never had an engagement party either,  because I was visiting and did not know his plans to propose to me, and we had no friends or family in that area to invite even if we tried to have one.

He did propose though, and on our intern to marry letters we wrote the date when we got engaged so they know we have. We never sent any pictures of the ring, or my picture with the ring,  or even a ring purchase receipt. Good luck on your visa journey !

It won't matter.

"Engaged" is not a legal or provable status anyhow, such as married or divorced.

My fiancé and I didn't technically do it "formally" either. But what exactly is formal anyway? It differs based on who you ask anyhow. I didn't have a ring until months later, because the proposal was done while he was visiting here once and he hadn't brought one/gotten one. We didn't have an engagement party - there's no rule that says you have to. Engagement can be personal just between the two people anyway, even in non-international relationships.

What will matter is providing the validity of the relationship itself, and the intent to marry.

Håll ut, y'all.

Especially since you are from the Philippines, it won't matter. Don't stress about it, just have your paperwork completed and bring the evidence that you met in person. Don't worry about long chat logs, mainly pictures together while meeting in the 2 year time window, plane ticket stubs, hotel receipts  and any other evidence being together (probable a bonus to have pictures with family). But honestly the Philippines is a pretty straight forward process for the K-1 visa, the biggest hurdles most have are with divorce paperwork, police clearance, or forgetting needed paperwork.

The least of your worries is an engagement ring/party

we filed, and we didn't have rings or whatever!

the requirements are:

-free to marry

-have met in person in the past two years,

Must or should have:

pictures, boarding passes, ongoing relationship chats, call-logs, hotel receipts, passport stamps, Bonafide relationship....

just like u, we want to be together and decide the K1 path! actually we propose each other every single day normally at the end of the day! a ring is just a symbolical object, in my opinion a "ring" could be any thing(watch, necklace, earring etc, etc) that remind  ur commitment to each other!

Good luck! focus in ur relationship is genuine! and u can prove it! it's all that matter! :D

pardon my typos :) waiting for @Naes

Your absence has not taught me how to be alone; it has merely shown me that when together we cast a single shadow on the wall.

@kanderson101 yes I can really prove that our relationship is real. Just worried about the ring and the party though.

They never asked me anything about engagement. They never asked about a ring (which is not a requirement for marriage anyways)

Mind you I went through all this in 2008 ..so maybe forgetting some details but they did ask when and how we met and how many times and the dates we seen each other in person.

Your part of this journey is nerve wracking everything makes you nervous and you tend to overthink everything because of the importance of it all. I know I have been there.

If you did everything your supposed to you will be ok. Good luck to you
