Booking flights

HI everyone,

I'm trying to book tickets for my POE and the only airline that has a good price (Thomas Cook (who would have thought it!) says the following: Note: It is necessary to present a return/on- going ticket or the relevant residence permit. Otherwise entry is not possible.

Surely, having the K1 Visa in my passport will be enough for them to let me on the one-way flight. I don't fancy paying another £200 that will end up getting lost when I don't return.

Advice please?

Thank you in advance!

Emily

I would Thomas Cook It, they can not deal with every situation in a sentence.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Can be 1 way or round trip. Doesn't matter. Some people book round trip tickets (return flight like 4-5 months out) and then cancel it because it's cheaper than a one way.

We did a one way ticket because it actually was the cheapest.

Totally up to you.

Often buying a return is cheaper than one way. Try the airline website. Pick a return that is not prime time like next October and see if the price is cheaper than picking a summer return.

It is literally half the price to do a One-Way than a Return. Just that statement about possibly being denied boarding made me wonder what's best.

Thomas Cook, in general is usually just a holiday based airline, so their handling of immigration airfare would be limited I'd assume. Another poster recently was discussing confusion over TC as well. You can call them and speak to an agent if you need clarification. In general if one is merely visiting a country a one-way ticket is a big red flag. But you aren't visiting, you're immigrating. An ESTA is also generally used for visitors coming in from the UK, but this also will not apply to you, so it is also unlikely you'll be able to use TC's online check-in system, and will need to check in at the desk on the day you fly.

I just called their UK Support centre (wow! they're open until 10pm) and the guy said that as long as I have met the requirements for US entry then I should not be denied boarding so I'll just book the one-way flight and take my NOA2 along with my Visa haha.

How cheap was your one way flight? Just out of curiosity, as I've never thought to look at Thomas Cook. I usually fly with Aer Lingus, who generally have pretty cheap flights.

£270 from Manchester to Portland via San Francisco. If I bought a return it would have been £420

I paid less than £220 for my one-way the week before Christmas 2016 from Gatwick to Las Vegas on Norwegian. And that included 2 suitcases. Such airlines are an interesting option for one-way tickets as they sell sector-based fares.
