Just wanted to post my fiance's experience following her K-1 and K-2 medical exams . . .

On Tuesday of this week, my fiance scheduled medical exams for herself and 7 year old daughter for 7:30am on Friday.  A few hours later, Cho Ray called her to say they rescheduled her appointments.  She needed to be in HCM City on Wednesday morning because they do not examine children on Fridays.   (We figured out why later.)  She flew to HCM City Tuesday night, stayed with friends, and arrived at Cho Ray Wednesday morning.  At Cho Ray, she was number 50 in the queue.  I had read that mother's with children sometimes get priority.  That was not the case.  She was at Cho Ray for 4 hours.

They moved the appointment from Friday because they do a TB skin test on children instead of an x-ray.  They need to return to Cho Ray in 2 days to have the skin test reviewed, which would not be possible if they administered the test on Friday.

The panel physician ordered 2 vaccines at Quarantine Services.  They were both told to get flu shots before traveling to the U.S.  They had a 1pm appointment at Quarantine Services.  She learned she was number 2065!!!  I don't know if they started at "1," but they were there for 4 1/2 hours!

The day was much longer than expected, but luckily she had not purchased return airfare.  Unluckily for them, there were no flights available, so they took the 7-hour bus trip home.  Hopefully, Friday's skin test review will be much quicker!

Sorry that she had so many problems.  My wife went to Cho Ray without issues.  Everything was done in a day for her and our stepdaughter.  Hopefully, the skin results are good and everything going forward will be smooth.  Good Luck!

Thank for sharing, my parents just get the interview date on Jun12. They will need to get their medical exam soon. Do you recommend getting the vaccine first or medical exam first?

My fiance and daughter never had any vaccinations, so they started getting them about 8 months ago at a local Pasteur clinic.  They received about 10 during during that time at a cost of about 12 million VND total for both of them.  Cho Ray required the meningitis vaccine, which was not available to them locally and it was much more expensive at Quarantine Services.  They are also required to return the day before the interview to receive a flu shot.

It may be different for your parents visa, but I read that the vaccinations were not a requirement for the K-1 visa.  They just needed to be completed as part of the AOS process.  My fiance and her daughter were not given an option, though.  They were required to get the meningitis vaccine and she was told to bring proof of their flu vaccinations to the interview.  Maybe it is different for other countries, but if Vietnam does require the full list of vaccines before issuing the visa, it might be less painful to start them now.  I wouldn't think you can physically get all those vaccines at one time.

Woaaa that’s crazy high for the vaccine, almost $600. Thank you so much for all the information.
