@hf2018

- eight weeks or maybe more to get a case number. I got mine at exactly 8 weeks, but people are reporting 10+ weeks so brace yourself

- then about a week to pay fees/wait for the payment to clear

- then whatever time it takes to file DS-260 and deliver your documents to NVC (usually a week if you have everything ready at hand and prepare all the answers)

- about 2–3 weeks to get a CC and get in line for the interview date

Your interview scheduling will depend on two major factors:

- how busy is your embassy – folks in Central America wait for 3–4 months while a Londoner recently reported their interview being scheduled in a few days after CC

- when does your embassy open the slots for an upcoming month and sends them to NVC

For example: my CC was in the middle of June, but by that time most July interview slots were already filled in so I had to wait until August distribution begins. Now NVC started assigning August interviews on the July 1st, but Kyiv embassy decided to wait for the visa bulletin to be published first, and they sent August slots to NVC on July 13th or around that. Almost immediately all pending Ukrainian cases have been scheduled.

I would recommend emailing your embassy after you get a CC and asking them when they open up slots for the next months and how busy they are. It will give you a nice basis to build your expectations.

When did the NVC receive your case?

I don't know. I was approved April 5, then there was silence, and I finally called the NVC on June 28. The following day I received the fee bill. Some websites mention that the date in the case number (June 28 in my case) refers to the date received but my colleagues have reported discrepancies with that theory.

Also, it's a case complete for me on 7/19. That's 8 days after DS-260 and civil documents were submitted on 7/11.

Congratulations! Finland embassy is unlikely to be overcrowded so you should get your interview date soon.

Thanks! That's right, I'm expecting to be informed of the interview date soon. I think the average time for scheduling is 2 weeks, as opposed to a month and beyond.

I just looked up statistics on the DoS website and there were a total of 84 immigrant visas issued in Helsinki in the fiscal year of 2017, of these 11 were in the employment preference category.

Out of curiosity, I checked Ukrainian numbers and our embassy is waaaaay busier. There were 4780 immigrant visas issued (second highest in Europe, only Albania had more), but only 70 of these were employment based. I am a rare beast B-)

If you're a rare beast, I'm almost extinct :P

I think it's fairly predictable which countries will have low or high numbers of US immigrants. Nordic people don't seem to have the need or desire to move because of the systems that provide equality, well-being and safety in their own countries. Even so, our countries are not perfect just like the US isn't. I have my reasons for moving to the US, and we'll see how it goes (I haven't even visited in 8 years!) ^_^

Absolutely agree. Europe in general yields very low amount of EB immigrants, mostly because there are tons of employment options on the continent even for people from poorer countries like Ukraine. And those few who decide to go through US immigration pains instead must have very compelling reasons to do so.

Hope it works out well for all of us. But if not, good ol' Europe will always be there hehe.

Since I revealed my intention to my coworkers, I've been asked why ad nauseam. Europeans like Americans and America itself but they hate the politics and that's why they can't begin to understand my decision. I do get anxious about the politics as well and watching the Handmaid's Tale doesn't help :D

Anyway, I try to keep my answers to a minimum because it has started to feel like such an intimate topic that I don't want to have to explain to everyone.

In all of this negativity, however, I was inspired by Francis Maxwell's comments in this YouTube video below. I believe the country can become even better than it is right now.

And like you said, we'll always have the option to return. I hope all of us will find what we're looking for ^_^

Had our interview yesterday. Both my husband (main applicant) and I got approved. Process was really straight forward,  few basic questions for my husband:

Who is petitioning you?

How many employees does the company have?

Who owns the company?

What will you do for the company?

What experience do you have in this line of work?

Than he asked me when was the last time I entered the USA and with what type of visa.

These questions were asked as he was typing in the computer,  (that's what he was doing most of the time) . Then he asked us " did you get married after this petition was filed?" We  answered "no, we met at church, before that".

All I have to say is that we had a very complex case, my husband was on F1 with d/s on I94- so no unlawful presence, and I had an approved I601A waiver . No questions whatsoever about these or about previous stay in USA.  The officer was kind, very kind actually, everyone who was there got approved (we went last- there were total of immigrant cases  that day). I was truly impressed with  the embassy, and I am so grateful for this opportunity. God bless USA!
