Hello Everyone,

Approximately how long does it take after filing for adjustment of status to receiving a green card? I am moving to the US on April 27th and plan to marry right away in order to get the paperwork going.

In my last post everyone was a little upset with me in the fact that I am concerned of not being able to visit my family. This is because I checked the processing times to adjust (it says for fiance visas you must file at the Chicago lockbox) it states the wait time is 11 months to 27.5 months. ......I feel one year to eighteen months would be difficult but very manageable, but I want to know if I have two years ahead of me that I am unable to visit Canada? If anyone with any experience in this could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. I just want to know what kind of road I have ahead of me.

Thank you,

BRENTWOOD

When you apply for the green card make sure you apply for advance parole and employment authorization at the same time so that you can travel and work whilst awaiting the green card. The advance parole will take between 3 and 6 months to be processed typically. Applying for these two with the green card application from a fiancé visa has the filing fee waived so doesn’t cost any more than just applying for adjustment of status it is worth doing even if you think you won’t need it.

I don't want to come off as rude but why don't you just read the replies people gave you on your last post??? There were multiple people telling you that you can apply for AP (advance parole) with your AOS and that it takes around 3-4 months to get that.

The AOS is taking about 12 months right now. But make sure you file for AP when you file for AOS because you will then receive the advance parole in about 120 days on average.

Where did you hear that you can not visit Canada for a period of 2 years?  It was clearly explained in your other thread that the period is 3-4 months after you file AOS.....

Sorry I am not very good at using this site. I just found the rest of the replies. They were getting emailed to me so I was able to read the first few responses and it wasn't allowing me to go back to my old thread afterwards. So please ignore this post. Thanks I will apply for advance parole then problem solved. Also it does not allow you to edit your posts which is crazy.... like once you write something it is set in stone.
