Hi,

I have been researching DCF for the past couple of months and we are looking to start the I-130 and CR-1 process within the next few weeks. Some days I think I've got my head round the whole process and other days I still find it rather overwhelming, especially after reading conflicting pieces of advice!

Backstory:
My husband to be was born in the US to British parents and has dual citizenship. He is currently living with me here in the UK but has a job starting in NYC and will be leaving at the beginning of June this year, and I'd like to join him as soon as I can. We are getting married on the 12th May 2018.

Questions:

  • The link to the list of approved doctors for the medical seems to be inactive and I'm unsure of where I can complete this. Is there a fee for the medical?
  • My partner has maintained US domicile whilst he has resided here in the UK for the past 10 months, does this mean he can complete the I-864 Affidavit of Support?

Possibly stupid questions:

  • On the I-130 form, do you need to put "N/A" in absolutely every field you are not filling in, even if you are not completing that section?
  • My partners mother is deceased. I can't see anywhere to state this on the I-130 form. However, it does ask for mothers place of residence, so unsure what to put here.
  • Want to double check that it is OK if my partner has already left for the US by the time I have my visa interview?
  • The guide says "Visit GP and obtain a vaccination record." - what are the vaccination requirements for the USA?
  • Is it best to fill in I-130 digitally and then print it, or to print and fill in by hand?

Many thanks in advance!

There is only one place where you can have the medical in the UK - Knightsbridge Doctors. No other doctors are approved by the embassy to carry out the medical. Fee is £300 excluding any vaccines you may need from them.

Your husband MUST complete an I-864 for you to take to the interview. For a CR-1 the spouse is always the sponsor even if they don’t make any money. If his income is not sufficient, you will need a joint sponsor who will also complete the I-864.

Always use “N/A” or “none” if there is no answer to a question. Never leave it blank it they will assume you missed a question.

Write “deceased” for “place of residence”.

Timeline in brief:

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Thanks so much for your response @JFH

Regarding the I-864, because of timing I don't know whether my husband should put his details for his current job in the UK, or wait until he's started his job in the US and put those?

You should always fill out the forms with the most current information. However, you won't need the I-864 until the interview phase (the very last step), which will likely happen after your husband has started his job in the US. If that is the case, then fill out the form with your husband's new job. If something changes before the interview,  such as a delay in your husband's start date, update your I-864 before taking it in.
