"Nobody hates us like us." (Ask Al Sharpton.)

But, it's always a lot easier to find an outside source to blame than to change something within your own culture; even if you have identified it as the problem already.

To back up a few pages, yes, it is necessary for the Bush regime to have allies such as these in the "War on Terror." They've gotta have at least some allies. And in truth, most Americans paint all Iraqis in the same light, regardless if they're Kurds, Sunnis, or Shiites. The way the media is reporting stuff now, nothing escapes public scrutiny. But, stories such as these are exactly what the regime likes for us to see, that way we "feel sorry" for those people that we're over there trying to help. It's all media hype. This type of thing was happening long before the war, and it'll be happening long after as well.

If the government is going to force me to exercise my "right" to health care, then they better start requiring people to exercise their Right to Bear Arms. - "Where's my public option rifle?"

I think this undermines (yet further) the idea that the US government can criticise the human rights records of other countries. If we're not out there breaking international law or finding ways to claim it doesn't apply to the treatment of certain people, the whole thing is irredeemably f*cked if we're allying ourselves with people who think nothing of committing barbarous acts on one another.

The war on terror, eh? Always remember that the Kurds are no aliens to the concept of terrorism. They have their very own terror brigades attacking anything that moves. Ask the Turks and their guests. Turkey being one of our NATO allies. That means we align ourselves with a terrorist enemy of an ally country of ours. So, really, we're back to the old game of "good terrorist, bad terrorist". Come to think of it: Osama just moved from the former to the latter a few years back... ;)

And North

Well that's a given. But part of the reason that US public opinion went so bad about Vietnam was the various reports and published photos of summary executions and atrocities being carried out by members of the Southern regime allied with the US. There was one General in particular who did some particularly heinous things and there was no small amount of outrage that a lot of this went on with the knowledge of our govt and military commanders.

Is there no end to your knowledge of situations, fact, or fiction, that are anti-american, and propagandist?

Kaydee - I think we all have something to bring to this discussion, but I think from now on the best thing you can bring is silence ;)
