I hope we never see the Boracayification of some of the other good island spots

Boracayificaiton?  That is awesome

Seems as if this may be common practice in Philippines.  I have been to Panglao, never been to Mactan.   I always wondered what Hepatitis tasted like

Yeah this has been an open secret for a while now. The bad days is when the beach smells like a open sewer due to how the tides are that day.

Manila Bay is a cesspool.  It is disgusting they way the people treat it

If you go to the US Embassy for the interview, just where you enter on the left side of the building for Immigration Visas, you can see Manila Bay, it is full of trash, plastic bottles, diapers, and debris.

We went to Boracay last Oct.  The water seemed clean, but I wouldn't have went had I known about this health hazard.  We all swam in the sea and luckily none of us got sick.

I had no clue either.

I was there a few years ago and some kid dropped a deuce on the beach.  The parents never cleaned it up, it was pretty nasty.

What kind of mentality is that?

At least have the common courtesy to bury it in the sand. ;)

Would be much nicer in the Philippines if they could grasp the idea of not littering (even in their own waterways/water supplies!). I really don't understand how they can justify this other then too much trash and what to do with it?

i would probably get some hate for saying this, but filipinos can be lazy, undisciplined and has the mentality of "if my neighbor does it, it must be ok for me to do the same". also, even if there are rules in place, respect for them or the authorities implementing them are non-existent.

which is sad, because take the filipino out of the philippines and they suddenly become law abiding citizens. well, except for the ones who overstay their visas! :jest:

Most of the 3rd world countries I've been to have the same problem.

But, I was shocked when I went to Palawan, its pretty clean.  I think the local government there puts a lot of effort in to battle littering.

What  I noticed about Palawan in general is it isn't crowded for the most part,  not a lot of people live there, the people tend to be healthy and eat a better diet and grow a little taller. I discovered Palawan back in 2011 by accident, and have enjoyed every trip back there.

You may be correct about the government battle, or it just might be the fact it is still kinda of a remote area and not been populated.  Either way it's a pretty cool island, best beaches I have found in Philippines, Boracay don't even compare
