Copy of Marriage License for AOS, and a few questions

Hello! We just got married last week and we are filling out the paperwork to adjust my husband's status now. Our officiant sent us a copy of the marriage license from before he submitted it to the city of New York. Would a photocopy of the copy be enough to submit?

Also, does the translation of the birth certificate need to go through an official translator? How would they indicate that they are "official?" Could be a stupid question, sorry.

Also, would it be advantageous for us to go get him a Social security number this week before we submit? We went to open a joint bank account today. The bank was willing to give him a credit card to start building credit as soon as he got the social security number, which would be great because we are hoping to buy a house later this year.

Should be enough.  A copy of a copy is still a copy.

The instructions do not say "official", but "The translator must sign a certifcation that the English language translation is complete and accurate, and that he or she is competent to translate from the foreign language into English.", see also:

It seems that you could do the translation and the certification yourself, if you are competent in both languages.

It shouldn't matter if you apply before or after you submit your petition, but apply as soon as possible.

If we submit the AOS and related paperwork tomorrow, could we still go apply for his SS Number this week? or would we have to wait at that point?

How long has it been since he entered the USA?

YMMV

He arrived on March 23. We got married last week.

As long as the I-94 has at least 14 more days remaining there is nothing stopping you from applying for a SSN

YMMV

But can we submit our AOS paperwork tomorrow and then go later this week for his SS number? Would that mess up anything? He wants to get started with the process because he wants his EAD card to work. We filled out all the forms and he wants to submit them tomorrow. However, with my work schedule I can not bring him to the social security office until later this week. Plus, I imagine he would have to wait some time before he gets a card & number in the mail, further delaying everything.

I will state it again..  As long as you have a minimum of 14 days remaining on his I-94 there is nothing stopping you from applying for a SSN.  Having a SSN or not having a SSN is not a requirement for the I-485.

The better path would have been to go to SSA immediately after arrival.  Since you did not do this, then you just go forward as planned now

YMMV

So getting one after submitting the AOS, (therefore putting NO for questions having a SS Number), but before receiving the EAD/AP cards is okay?

You are answering the question accurately AS OF the date of filing the application.  If he gets his SSN after the date of filing is OK.

Okay, that makes sense. Thank you! I am assuming somehow they will link these together in the system at some point down the road?

Probably at time of ROC, but the USCIS does not care about SSN the same way the SSA and IRS do

YMMV
