Hello,

My question is really more about taxes and what I should do. I made enough money last year to be over the federal poverty line, but I worked the majority of the year outside of the US. I know I need to report this income on my tax return, but my problem is that I really kind of did most of this work under the table abroad and have no record of payments being received. I worked four months in the US, but those four months don't put me at the right income threshold.

When I went to file my taxes, the accountant told me that she couldn't include my foreign income without any type of proof. But that leaves me with two problems: 1) I know I'm legally required to report all my income and 2) I need this income to prove I had enough last year.

I do currently make more than 125% of the federal poverty guideline and will be able to provide proof of this (pay stubs, W2, employment letter), but will taking the accountant's suggestion and just filing my US income pose a problem in the future? Is there a way to file this income? I wasn't self-employed, and I do have a work contract that states my salary and payment schedule; I just got paid in cash so there's no record of it.

Thanks for any help in advance.

you can file for income made by working self employed just need to be prepared to pay federal and state taxes, plus SS withholding for amount earned and into medicare ( all these would have been deducted in a normal pay check and now you are responsible for them

and BTW the following will explain this

Taxes must be paid as you earn or receive income during the year, either through withholding or estimated tax payments. If the amount of income tax withheld from your salary or pension is not enough, or if you receive income such as interest, dividends, alimony, self-employment income, capital gains, prizes and awards, you may have to make estimated tax payments. If you are in business for yourself, you generally need to make estimated tax payments. Estimated tax is used to pay not only income tax, but other taxes such as self-employment tax and alternative minimum tax.

If you don’t pay enough tax through withholding and estimated tax payments, you may be charged a penalty. You also may be charged a penalty if your estimated tax payments are late, even if you are due a refund when you file your tax return.
