Thanks so much for all the very valuable information. I get so excited reading your posts because I know exactly how I'll feel when I get to that stage in the process. You're soooo close now......You're very right about Montreal in the summertime. I've never been to Montreal so a little mini vacation for both medical and interview may be much nicer than a separate trip to Vancouver.

Oh U was going to ask you @kenikki - i saw that the medical office said to bring any prescriptions you have been prescribed by a doctor. I am going to my GP today to get the titer test and be proactive on vaccines, but do I need to ask them to pull a full list of prescriptions i've received my whole life or did the office just mean to bring any prescriptions you're actively taking on a daily basis? I'm assuming the latter, but you never know with this process lol.

Hello,

Thought I needed to ask this here as it's Montreal Consulate specific.

I'll be heading to my K1 interview within the next couple of months so I have been researching all of the required documents etc that I will need to bring along. I came across this link today while on the Montreal Consulate site and I was utterly confused.

All of everything I have ever read here on VJ or elsewhere states that as a K1 Fiancé(e) Visa applicant I need to bring a I134 Affidavit of Support signed by my petitioner.

The Fiancé(e) Application Checklist stated in the following link states I need a completed I864 instead.

https://ca.usembassy.gov/visas/fiancee/appointment-checklist/

Can anyone shed some light?

Hey there,

My fiancee and I actually had the same question, so he emailed the Montreal embassy to verify. This was their response:

Good Afternoon,

Thank you for contacting us.

Please note that the I-864 form is not necessary for K-1 visa application, unless specifically requested by the Consular Officer processing the case.

Detailed information regarding the K-1 visa processing is available here https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/family-immigration/nonimmigrant-visa-for-a-fiance-k-1.html

We hope that this information is helpful in replying to your inquiry.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Best Regards,

Hope this helps :)

Yeah, my guess is that they made a mistake, or the form is outdated.. Not sure why they haven't updated it, I would imagine a lot of people have the same question.

Thank you for your reply. I emailed them as well but I wanted to see if anyone had encountered this confusion too. Glad I'm not alone.

They took the originals and copies during the paperwork review but returned the originals after the interview.

I meant to ask this awhile ago. I have never been married (the Canadian) but my fiancee has years ago. He doesn't have the original final divorce decree but we requested, from the County Clerk, certified copies of the final decree. I am assuming this is the same as the original since they are basically taking a full copy of the original they have on file, stamping with with a physical seal and signature, certifying it as valid as if it was the original? So then basically we take that Certified Copy (i.e. the "original") and then make a photocopy of that (that is the copy they ask for)? I am probably over thinking this, I just want to be sure I am collecting things in advance since sometimes this stuff takes weeks or a month to get.... Thanks!

You aren't over thinking.

You will need either the original or a certified copy that you will obtain exactly how you have explained.

You will then take a photocopy of either the original or the certified copy as you need photocopies of every document you are bringing.

Therefore, you will bring:

1) The original OR certified copy

2) The photocopy of the original OR the certified copy.

***BUT be prepared to give the embassy EITHER the original/certified OR the photocopy at your interview. If they make you give them the original or certified copy, YOU MAY NOT GET IT BACK. So you may want to have TWO certified copies made just incase your state where you get married requires you to have a certified copy of his divorce to obtain a marriage license.

Thank you for confirming :) As you can see, I have days where I randomly think of something and say to myself "omg, am I assuming correctly?!?!" and so I REALLY appreciate quick confirmations :) Hope all is well @K1visaHopeful

Awesome! Yea, a month ago (during one of my 48 hour benders of nothing but VJ reaching and K1 research online lol), I printed off the DS-160 they have online (the really blurry version that is screen shots of every single page/tab with notes on the top saying who the questions are applicable to) and I basically filled out all my answers by hand so I felt like I did something. Also, because I figured, then as soon as I get Packet 3, I'm doing my DS-160 in under an hour and then sending them back the scanned check-list and that confirmation the next day to get Packet 4 asap.

Do you have P3 yet officially? Let me know how it goes tomorrow and if anything caught you off-guard! Also, are you getting US-standard Passport Photos done that you are scanning/uploading or using the computer to do it for the DS-160?

No I just got NOA2 yesterday.

I've done the DS160 many months back with not too many problems but I'm sure I can figure it all out with some research if necessary. It's savable for 30 days on the website so I'm sure I'll have Packet 3 by then.

I was figuring I'll get the passport photos done professionally as we need them for our medical appt too and that will be done around the same time so I'll just use those for my DS160.

  • 2 weeks later...

@kenikki,

I have peeped at your timeline and noticed your interview date was all the way in June.

When did you get the okay to book your interview?

And was your June date the earliest that was available or did you choose it for other reasons?

If you could elaborate on your case that would be great!
