Vi,

I am sorry someone has made you felt that way... I wont say in the two years that I have been here no one has ever made me feel that way, but when someone tries I take it "deportivamente" like we say... and sometimes dont even try to explain myself because it isnt worth it.

One thing I find really entertaining... is some people's faces when I tell them things like "I miss my maid, every afternoon around 4pm, she would make sure I had my afternoon coffee"... it is funny!! I only say those things when I know I am around people who still think that people in Lima wear "polleras" and use llamas for transportation!!

----

About the checks "debate"... some people find it safer to pay with a money order than a personal check... I work at a bank and I have seen MANY cases of identity theft because their information got stolen when they made a payment with a personal check, not to mention cases of "washed" checks.

Vi,

I think that you don't understand what is discrimination... What you are scare of or upset at is that you are being stereotyped, and even though you say you have nothing against "those pleople" who do that type of job... (a mean is not like it makes them less) you don't want anyone to even think o suggest that you could be a nanny or a cleaning person...but even if anyone went to school academia or university ... I'm sure that person could still babysit or clean... unless because you have a deggree it is physically or intellectually imposible for you to do that.... I think the one who discriminates is you against people who perform those duties in Peru or here.... You think you are superior because you did have a maid... big deal!

I am the USC and I am more concerned about discimination than my wife who is Mexican. I always want to protect her and make sure she is happy here. We will have our son in October and this to makes me more concerned because I don't want him to experience discrimination either. I hope to teach him that it does not matter what ignorant people think but how he feels about himself.

We have no idea what he will look like, he could be blue eyes and blonde hair or brown eyes and black hair or something in the middle?

Unfortunately illegal immigrants from south of the US border have become a hugh issue and I'm affraid it will only get worse.

This type of discrimination occurs all the time here in southern California. Some of my Mexican friends tell me they can really relate to that Cheech Marin movie 'East L.A.'. He was sterotyped and deported to Mexico. My ex was Mexican and she had worked for a large hotel chain for over 20 years and the management treated her like dirt. She always felt she had to work extra hard to even have a chance to keep her job to say nothing of promotion.
