One article had several quotes of Comey from this section of the book. His reasoning/explanation did seem a little convoluted. Lots of "I think I may have thought this" and I think he even threw in a "subconsciously". 

 

My interpretation was essentially he thought Clinton was going to win, so he wanted to make sure the public knew that they were reopening the investigation before they voted. If the public found out that they had reopened the investigation AFTER she won the election, he was worried then they might think that it was some "conspiracy" to keep the information quiet. Even though it would have been standard practice for the FBI NOT to publically comment on on-going investigations (or reopening of investigations) until they were concluded,  he was trying to give the electorate as much information as possible before the election. That seems reasonable. 

 

So yes he did think she was going to win, and that did influence his decision to announce he was re-investigating the issue right before the election. But I don't see how that logically links to him wanting her to win and "wanting to keep his job" as Trump suggested on twitter. It seems like it was a situation where the standard practices for the FBI (Not publically commenting on investigations until they are completed) was potentially not the best choice, and he made a judgment call in an effort to make the election as fully informed and legitimate as possible.

 

If our priorities for the FBI are honesty and doing right by the citizens of the country, it was the right call to make in that situation.

Trump must be furious with Kellyanne this morning. She is working with the title Counselor to POTUS with an annual compensation of $179,700, goes on fake news TV and says Comey swung an election.

 

Hillary for sure owes her a nice dinner. Maybe they can do spin classes together after she is fired.

I am not sure that applied to him or his immediate deputies as even a reasonable person could see that one he was over-stepping his position in the chain of command back in July 2016 when is kind of sort of exonerated Hillary (without a nasty raid or anything), and then did the same thing with his re-opening statement.  In this I agree with Chris Christy when he thinks Comey started to believe his press clippings (I think McCabe was much the same and he certainly wasn't honest).  I would restate your phrase to say our priorities for the FBI are honesty and obscurity at all levels.

Do you think President Clinton would have been pleased with him even if she had won? I would have assumed you would think she would be spiteful and vindictive. 

 

If Clinton ended up winning it would have been IN SPITE of what he did. That wouldn't have looked good on his resume to keep his job. Maybe he still would have kept it...but it certainly would have lowered his chances not increased them.

 

How exactly did he "over-step" his position as Director of the FBI? He presented the conclusions of their investigation in 2016. He did he "over-step" in that? I sort of agree with you about the "re-opening" statement in the sense that the typical procedure for the FBI would have been to say nothing. As I said, it seems like his reasoning to deviate from standard practices in that instance was to inform the public prior to the election, so that people could make the most educated decision possible when voting and so as not to potentially create an "illegitimate" election. That still seems reasonable to me.

How do you know Comey isn't a pathological liar?  Based on many of his statements it is quite hard to tell.  Regardless, all he looks like is a disgruntled former employee, and he seems to be upsetting folks on all sides as I believe Loretta Lynch is not very happy with him either.

I'm sure I could find tens or hundreds of different clips of video with Trump lying. Comey? You could probably count them on one hand. If I had to take the word of one man it's Comey all the way.
