[Kyiv, Ukraine] Do minor children need to attend the K1 visa interview? And, single parent proof.

I've read conflicting information and just trying to find answers from people who have experienced it.

 

My fiance has a 2 year old child and wants a definitive answer on if the child needs to attend the interview or not. I've read conflicting information even from official sources.

 

Also, she has some official paper from the her oblast government stating that the child has no father (good for 6 months), is that all she will need at the interview to deal with the parental/custodial questions?

Was a K2 filed for the child?

 

If the child will be immigrating with her via K2 then, yes, the child has to attend an interview. However, if the child will be immigrating at later date then an interview will be scheduled when the time comes.

 

Is the letter from the government family court ordered? Is there a father's name on the births certificate?

Not all places do a K2 have to attend if under 14 years. 

 

But definitely ask the embassy and if they can't provide an answer then I would just bring the child just to be sure.

Sorry for the late response, I am just now seeing this.

 

Yes, a K2 will be filed and immigrating at the same time. The child is 2.

 

There is no father listed on the birth certificate. It is a fake name listed as the father - I am told this was very common in Ukraine. She does have an official paper from the government (ZAGS?) that says the child does not have a father, and she will be getting a new copy with new dates on it before the interview.
