Why is nowadays that folks who get stolen from are stupid, lazy,  guilty and the folks doing the theiving are smart, agile and moral or at least no different than anyone else?

I didn't call people stupid for getting information stolen, I called them stupid for willingly giving it away on a platform like FB or Twitter, etc.

I am referring to the larger trend, even in this forum, that jumps to the conclusion that folks are victims because they are at fault.

Isn't everybody realizing their victimhood status another goal of the Democrats?  Regardless, if you think FB has wronged you, one can always take them to court.  I doubt that person will win.

Inherently, it is stupid for someone to use the internet or cellphone entirely. You could also be further stupid for joining a grocery club or have a rewards card or credit card or making a transaction at a store. All of these entities and more collect the same if not even more data to frame a picture. This forum will have data too. Every interaction taken on platforms online and offline will collect data and metadata.

 

FWIW: I checked my facebook. My pool of friends is small and so supposedly according to them, Cambridge did not breach my data. But who else has breached it? And how do I know facebook is being honest? My husband also checked his, and he was good there too. Facebook did have minimal data collected about me via ads, and there were also advertisers listed who had my information. They claim to both of us, that either we interacted with them, or some other unknown entity that has my email has interacted with them and shared it. Well... most of the advertisers we didn't know, and since facebook isn't interested in revealing what entity has our info and shared the love, how does this empower the consumer? Facebook still has some of the worst privacy controls there is.

Actually, it is stupid for people to do these things without reading up and understanding what they are getting into.  I get a lot of emails and junk mail from what I am sure is giving information to someone or something at some point, I trash it without reading so for me the advertising dollar is lost.  You can say the same thing for FB.  FB is a company that needs to make money and they do this by selling advertising based on the data they collect.  They also allow data mining by various groups for advertising which includes for political advertising.  I will say it again, what is the all the uproar about, people willingly join FB and willingly post content, they can simply ignore all the advertising, and if CA violated some terms that FB has for its data miners, then they can take them to court instead of wasting Congresses, or anyone else's time.  FB, or any other social media outlet is just not that important in the grand scheme of things.
