We have a lawyer handling our case, and according to him it's just a matter of waiting for the packet from the consulate? What is the time frame for that? And approx how much longer until the interview?

If I recall correctly, that's the stage right before the embassy staff will schedule your partner for their interview. This may take 1-2 months since the backlog for interviews in Bangkok is somewhat lengthy. Looking back at my notes, we sent "Packet 3" once the case status was marked READY on the CEAC site. If you haven't already started getting your partner's Royal Thai police clearance/certificate, it would be wise to get started on that now. It took us six (6) weeks to get it!

Hope that isn't the case. We're fast approaching 1 year since we began this and I think we're both very fatigued with it. Here's to hoping the process starts picking up a bit now that Songkran is over.

Take a look at our timeline:

13 Dec 2016    CEAC status shows "Ready"
    24 Jan 2017    Interview

As you can see, it took about 1.5 months and this was back in 2016. That's why I mentioned it may take 1-2 months just so you have a realistic timeframe. It's possible that your case will move faster or slower than ours.

1-2 months for interview isn't bad. I'm more worried about 1-2 months before we get package 3 from embassy, and then 1-2 months before we get interview after that (4 months total!) Hoping we get package 3 this week so we can get that returned immediately and wait for the interview info.

you can get the packet 3 from the embassy website and get everything done in advance. That way when your case is marked as ready you can go ahead and send the embassy everything that is required.

I'll just second the May 1 post, after we received NOA2, we started pulling together the Packet 3 documents (per the instructions on the US Embassy-Bangkok website) while the application was being transferred to NVC, then onwards to Bangkok. I followed the progress online, when the CEAC website posted "Ready", we did not wait for an email or letter requesting Packet 3 from the Embassy, we went ahead and EMS-mailed it the next day. The snail mail at all stages has been way behind, one example, we got the letter from NVC saying the application would be forwarded to Bangkok almost a week after her interview/visa approval.

takes about 1 week plus however long it takes for the mail, unless you were picking it up yourself.

We really didn't find Bangkok having a backlog. We mailed in our packet 3 info on May 8th and got our interview date on May 11th. They have the interview listed for May 30th, but we'll have to get that changed into mid-late June as her job will not give her the time off.

Hey bud, my fiance has her interview on the 20th as well. She sent in packet 3 Friday and just got her interview date on Monday, only 13 days notice but that's a good thing. Anyway see you have Raleigh listed as your city. I'm from Tarboro. Just thought that was notable since we are so close and they have interviews on the same day. Has your fiance had her medical yet? Mine is going in the morning.

So far she loves it. But it was the same for me when I first moved to Thailand - about 10ish months before the rose glasses came off. So we will see! I wish Kentucky had a larger Thai community for her.
