I meant loss of life caused by the protesters. It's been my impression that the loss of life has been the Israelis responding to the protests.

What do you mean about the first lady?

She is in the hospital with some kind of kidney problem for several days. Let me start a new thread in order to get this one back on topic and you can weigh in

"The minister said: “The United Kingdom has been clear in calling for, urgently, a need to establish the facts of what happened, including why such a volume of live fire was used. “We are supportive of that independent, transparent investigation. Already, our team at the United Nations are in work with others in relation to what we can do in relation to that."

I concur.

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/05/15/u-s-blocks-united-nations-call-for-independent-probe-into-gaza-deaths.html

"The United States blocked a United Nations (UN) Security Council statement drafted Monday that called for an independent investigation into the deaths of at least 58 Palestinians along the Israeli-Gaza border...The Security Council expresses its outrage and sorrow at the killing of Palestinian civilians exercising their right to peaceful protest," a draft of the statement read, which was seen and reported by AFP. "The Security Council calls for an independent and transparent investigation into these actions to ensure accountability." The U.S. has used its veto power 43 times against UN resolutions concerning Israel."

I think that is wholly inappropriate and honestly I'm ashamed of my country for it.

except the Protests were not peaceful,  and Property and people were attacked.

From what I can tell property was attacked.

Lethal force may not have been the proper response to an attack on property. I'm not saying anything that was done was wrong, but I do think it warrants investigation. 60+ protesters dead with no (reported) loss of life (or significant injury) on the Israeli side seems a little one-sided in terms of the response.

From what I can tell I'm not sure the protesters were asking for a gun fight. The people who made it a "gun fight" were the people who open fired and killed dozens of people. Those were the Israeli's. While molotov cocktails attached to kites are definitely not okay...I'm not sure if the proper response is to kill 60 people (at least). From what I can tell no one was actually harmed by those molotov kitetails.

I think this is a perfect example of the "image" problem Israel has. They say they want peace but with pretty much every "dispute" that takes place they are overwhelmingly responsible for the loss of life.

While Israel certainly didn't start the protests, their response makes them look like the violent ones. If that is just a perspective issue then they need to work on that. It makes them look like the bully.

well, i'll probably get in trouble (if not banned) for saying this here but, israel is the violent bully in this case. there's no 'looks like' about it.

That is an opinion, which you should be entitled to, and not really directed at anyone in particular. Not sure how that would get you banned, but I will report you just in case

I tend to avoid absolute statements. I'm not there, I don't experience these things with my own eyes. You are certainly welcome to state  it more strongly, and if you made me pick a side I'd agree with you.

Fellow posters. Fellow is generally used to describe men. Val is a women. You used the wrong gender identifier.

Fellow is genderless in this context, and is generally so except in informal situations which are rarely used anymore (where "fellow" refers to a young man). The only way it would refer to just men is if the sentence read something like "Our fellow men" or "This young man is a good fellow". If it's used on its own it just means a person in a similar situation as you.

Serious for a second. I know we play bicker some, and I do recognize you are a very smart dude.

Was it not obvious to you I was joking ?

I realized the "triggered" part (photo) was a joke, but it wasn't clear that you were joking about "fellow" implying a male gender.

I realize you mostly don't care or are sarcastic in these situations, but I'd rather the sarcasm be based on factual information ;)
