I am getting everything together that I will need to send my fiancee for her interview, and I had a question about the birth certificate. Is a Certified copy obtained from the state department of vital records good enough to send her? Also I have seen people discuss the issue of affidavit of single status, is this required to send her? I haven't seen it mentioned in the requirements.

Thanks

Mike,

To be on the safe side, make sure your birth certificate has your parent's information too. Sometimes this is called the "long form" birth certificate. And original "certified copy" from VR should be sent ... not a copy of the certified copy.

Affidavit of single status is something required in Vietnam when applying for K3. We don't have that in the States.

As far as I know, if the process is the same as it is in the UK, the only document you need to supply to your fiancee is your Affidavit of support.

When I go to my fiance's interview I will only have the one from the "vital records" state department. I have asked around & as far as I know-I can not receive a "long form". The one I have does NOT have my parent's names on it. I have called the "Commonwealth of Pa" several times and I was told the one I have is the only one available.

We got our noa2-that is what I gave a copy of.

I didn't send any birth certificate or copies of my passport pages to my fiance. Why do you think she/he neds it? If the consulate asks for it (in packet 3 or 4) send it but it is not a requirement for the I134. Good Luck

It was a requirement when filing the K-1 right?

I submitted a copy front/back with the petition. I plan on having the original in case it is needed, because I will have ALL originals for copies I sent.

I confuse myself

Yep, and be careful about making generalizations about what is required. It varies by consulate. The original post was by someone going through Vietnam. In Vietnam, they ask for the both the beneficiary's and petitioner's ORIGINAL birth certificate as well as a copy.

A big thanks to everyone and their help. I contacted my local state office and they cannot provide an original. They can only provide a certified copy with a raised stamp which shows my parents names. I will send this to my fiancee for her interview along with a copy of it.

Thanks again!!!
