Filing Abroad - Petitioner Change of Address

Hello,

 

I am new to here and also new the whole CR1 visa process, so I appologize in advance if there is already a topic on this.

 

 I currently live in Brazil and would like to petition for a CR1 for my husband. However, I plan on moving (on my own) back to the US to start looking for jobs. As the petitioner, am I allowed to move back during the visa process or do I have to wait in Brazil until he gets the Visa?

Yes, you can move back at any time, in fact, this is a good thing to do as you will need to demonstrate your intent to re-establish domicile in the United States before his visa can be approved. If you move back ahead of him, job done and no further evidence needed.

I-130 filed: February 5, 2016

NOA1: February 8, 2016 Nebraska

NOA2: July 21, 2016

Interview: December 6, 2016 London

POE: December 19, 2016 Las Vegas

N-400 filed: September 30, 2019

Interview: March 22, 2021 Seattle

Oath: March 22, 2021 COVID-style same-day oath

 

Now a US citizen!

Since I don't file my taxes in the US, the sponsor will be a family member that still lives in the US and they will maintain the same address but do you know if I have to update my address anywhere? Re-send any forms?

You will have to file past taxes in the US regardless of where you live.....good luck.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

You need to get your taxes in order. USCs have to file by law, no matter where in the world they live unless they are earning below the threshold. Have you been working or earning an income in Brazil? Or are you a student?
