IR2 VISA PATH TO CITIZENSHIP

Hello,

Not sure where is the right place to post this.

Just a quick question that I can't seem to find a solid answer for.

I have just obtained an IR2 Visa and moved to the USA. However, I applied before 21 and received it at 22. Just wondering what is the process for applying for US citizenship/ US Passport?

From my understanding if you get this visa under the age of 18, you can immediately apply for a US passport once you enter the country on your IR2. But I'm not sure what the rule is for anyone over the age of 21?

In your case you can apply for citizenship after 5 years as an LPR. If you marry a USC you are eligible after 3 years of marriage and residency.

You can apply after 5 years if you were over 18 yrs when you filed the petition, BTW how long did the whole process of IR2 take you?

That's a bit unfortunate - didn't realise it would be that long a wait. Thanks for the response.

The whole process probably took about a year and 3 quarters.

over 18 you have to wait 5 years, you can file 90 days before your 5 years of residency
