This might sound ridiculous, but I'm here on a K1 waiting to get approved for my adjustment of status, and I'm wondering how and if I should be filing for taxes right now. I moved up in August and have only been employed for a month or two. Any advice would be appreciated

Hi, I'm assuming you have an ssn#.

I filed taxes. I moved here end of November and didnt have any earnings.

I added myself to my husbands taxes as joint (married). But with you having earnings it would be a good idea to file.

I believe the cutoff is april 18 if I am not mistaken.

Yes you need to be filing taxes, Cut off is April 15th, but since that is on a Sunday it will be the 18th.

What's due this month are tax returns for the 2017 calendar year. So if you didn't work in the US in calendar 2017 (I'm assuming a couple of months is less than three months and a week), then you don't need to file an income tax return. You will need to starting next year.

On the other hand, if you did work in calendar 2017, then you need to file an income tax return.

You can file jointly with your spouse, and that's usually to your advantage I think, especially post-2017.
