Hello!

I am looking into filing a K1 Visa for my fiancee in the UK very soon. I am a bit anxious about the whole procedure, and would just like some opinions and advice on my progress before I mail my submission out.

So far, I have accumulated:

> Completed I-129F

> Letters of Intent from myself and my fiancee

> Evidence of an ongoing relationship with us for the duration of our relationship (nearly 4 years) ie. photos, travel receipts
> G-1145
> Cover letter for I-129F
> Passport-style photos of the both of us
> My US Birth Certificate
> $535 Payment (no check/money order written as of yet)

Neither of us have been married prior or had our names changed since birth.

My questions are:
> What would be the most secured way to mail the payment? I am scared if I mail a money order or check along with the packet that it will get lost in the mail, what would be the best way to secure my money?
> Are there any other forms that should be submitted? I noticed in other forums that said that G-325A needed to be filed in the packet as well, but I am unsure if it still applies.
> How long would it take if I were to file within this week? We are thinking it may take til about October/November, but I am unsure if it will be that soon, just would be nice to get an approximate time to look forward to :)
> Would he be able to travel to the US on an ESTA to visit while our petition is being reviewed? We haven't seen each other since November of last year, and we were looking into him coming back out into the US for a small visit since we miss each other dearly.

If there is any other helpful advice you guys could offer me, I would greatly appreciate it. We are both fairly young (early 20's) and would like any help we can get.

Thank you all so much in advance! :)

if you are filing the petition from the US...regular mail is just fine. write a check so you can track when they cash it and see that your petition has been received.

the whole process is around 8-10 months for K1 to get your fiance here to the US

if he is filing for a K1 that is an intent to immigrate, so they may ask at the POE more questions if he intents to go back to the UK after his visit. I'd rather not take my  chances and better visit him or meet him in Canada or Mexico, but that is just me.

read the instructions in USCIS website. it's all there.

They aren't looking for how much in love you are or how much you post on Facebook. They want documentation of meeting in person, face to face during the last two years. Focus on  those two years.  Your passport stamps to each other's country and boarding passes work for that. If either of you have credit cards with your name on the bill and a purchase in the other's town, that helps put you face to face. An ATM withdrawal in the other's town shown on your bank statement with your name on it is another example. A Starbucks receipt that could have been picked up off the floor with no name on it is not so helpful. Get the idea of how to think this through? Photocopy your evidence and highlight your name, date, and the town /country to point out what you are wanting them to notice.

Yep, that's outdated info.

Use a US post office Priority Mail envelope. It is trackable.

I am dead serious about my suggestions, so learn from an experience person who went from fiancé to US citizen.

  1. Don't try to DIY immigration on your phone. Get on a proper computer. This is important enough to see on big screen, not an app.
  2. Get your forms from https://www.uscis.gov/forms not some random website. Then you know it's the current version.
  3. READ the actual USCIS instructions for each form. Read the whole thing 2-3 times.
  4. Buy a printer/fax/scanner/copier because you have years ahead of you before you are done submitting things to Immigration.
  5. When you have assembled and triple checked your packet, lay in out page by page on the copier you bought (above) and make an exact clone before you mail it off. That includes your check and the addressed envelope you are going to mail it in. Put it in one of those three brad binders for your records. Then when you start second guessing yourself, you know exactly what you sent, if you left off a question, if you made your check out as they state, etc.

You do not need the G-325A form.

I would also recommend sending via USPS Priority Mail, because you will know when it is delivered.

Make sure that you have current versions of the forms, because you will absolutely be denied for using out of date forms.

If you cannot afford a printer/copier, just go to your local copy shop and make sure that you make copies of everything.

Also, do NOT mail the original copies of the paperwork.  Only send copies.

Americans send checks via the mail all the time. You need to be sending it in a trackable priory mail envelop you can snag at any post office and send it from there. Make sure that the evidence you present is solid and traceable to both of you. Also please ensure that the birth certificate you're sending is not the original, but a copy (you will not receive back originals of anything). Go over all instructions and guides on this site carefully and go over the instructions from the USCIS as well. Set your anxiety aside, as most of it will just be a lot of waiting. :)
