Confusion question

Gonna try to word this without being too confusing.

 

My cousin  (K) is married to a resident. She came to USA in Jan 2016 after he petitioned for her. Her husband (B) will become a citizen very soon. They will have been married 3 years this year. Can she, my cousin apply to become a US citizen as soon as she is here for 3 years herself. I know persons married to US citizens are elegible to become citizens after being in the country for three years instead of five like the average person. Basically, does it matter if by the time she makes three years in USA he has only been a citizen for a year or less.

 

does this make sense?

10/03/2011 - I-130 Sent (USPS priority w/ delivery confirmation)
10/05/2011 - Package arrived at chicago lockbox

03/12/2012 - Called NVC and found out about checklist. Sent revision to NVC that same day.
03/16/2012 - CASE COMPLETE!
04/11/2012 - Informed of interview via phone by DOS/ Got P4 email from NVC a few hours later that same day (May 4th)
SANTO DOMINGO CONSULATE
04/19/2012 - Medical
05/04/2012 - Interview (APPROVED)
05/10/2012 - Visa ready and picked up at domex
05/15/2012 - POE in Boston (together)
U. S. A
05/29/2012 - Went to SS office to apply for SS card
06/01/2012 - Welcome letter arrived (Received about 3 of these)
06/05/2012 - Green card arrived
06/15/2012- Back to SS office with green card to reapply and inquire about delay
06/18/2012 - Picked up SSN at SSA office
06/22/2012 - SS card arrived by mail

04/24/14 - Sent I-751 to remove conditions

06/09/14 - Biometrics

11/2014 - RFE from USCIS requesting more evidence before approval

Late Jan - Sent further evidence of marriage

03/05/2015 - Got letter of approval for removal of conditions

03/15/2015 - Permanent 10 yr green card received via mail

You don't have to wait until you've had a green card for five years to apply for citizenship through the process known as naturalization. Assuming you stay married to and living with your U.S. citizen spouse the whole time, you can apply for citizenship three years after obtaining a green card.

10/17/2018                After 136 days of wait in HELL, finally EAD in production

10/21/2018                Card was mailed to me, and yes it said so on a Sunday night, while Vj-ing

10/22/2018                Card was picked up by the USPS

10/24/2018                EAD in hand. F%^&& finally

12/28/2018                Interview has been scheduled. Waiting for notification with date by snail mail

I don't think so. I think she has to wait 5 years (4 years 9months to start application). because her husband has to be US citizen the whole 3 years they married for her to qualify for 3 years eligibility.

He is not yet a US citizen though. He is in the process of becoming a US citizen by naturalization.

@StephanieM i believe so too. Since he is not a US Citizen the whole 3 years. You would be required to wait the 5 years t naturalize.

I don't think the time prior to the green card counts.

Well in my experience k1 visa adjusting status..the time alootement towards the 3 years to become a usa citizen starts not from the day I moved here but the day I get a green card.

So if I don't get a green card for 3 years..even though I'm married to a usa citizen I cant apply for usa citizenship since I didnt have the green card yet.

 

I'm not sure if your case is the same just sharing mine.
